For some, the fight for social equality is moving to a new battleground: the banking sector.

In the midst of a national debate about how to address police brutality and economic inequality, a quiet shift has taken place. Participants in a nationwide movement to deploy African-American spending power in a more targeted fashion have funneled deposits into black-owned banks across the country. Dubbed the "Bank Black" campaign, proponents have called for using black wealth to create positive change in an increasingly fractured society.

As long as those banks are stable and competent, go for it. If they aren’t, and you’re just investing based upon racism, don’t go crying when political bankers just find you hate-based gullible.

This is actually a good idea. It allows those banks to lend money into the local community, for business start-ups, etc.

It’s much better than welfare.

To have spending power, implies that they have jobs. Blacks may have equal voters; but let’s not kid ourselves. They do not, nor have they ever attempted to have equal earning power nor have they applied to take advantage of equal education - no matter how low the bar has been lowered.

Let’s deal in reality; we have 14.1% of the population, that consumes 36.9% of the nations Welfare; demanding special parity in banking. Credit scores are based upon responsible payment of debt, not race. Lowering the bar for race serves no one. It will only create ANOTHER housing bubble when irresponsible people fail to magically act responsible with a housing debt.

You earn your credit report. You earn your house. It’s not that hard to understand.

I’m all for it. When the banks lose enough money to non paying borrowers and tighten their lending practices, then they cannot yell racism.

I approve of this too. Building themselves up rather than yelling at the rest of the world to do it for them, and doing it in a legal and productive way... hey, great by me.

When these banks go under, they will demand the government bail them out because America is ‘racist’

You assume (falsely) that everyone needs credit or uses it to buy a house (we have paid cash for every house we own - all 3 of them)

That sounds like a form of segregation-do people really want to do that? It sounds like what some cultish religious groups do-only do business and banking, only socialize with and marry those who belong to the same church ,etc-doesn’t sound like America to me...
