If you want on or off the ping list for the daily newspaper from 120 years ago, drop me a line, either here or by FReep mail. The rate is 23 cents per week (3 cents for the dailies and a nickel for Sunday).

FYI this is the Sunday edition.

I had a relative whose name I can’t recall, die of nosebleed in the early 1900s.

I think Attila The Hun also died from a nosebleed.

Interesting. A form of hemophilia or issues with clotting? I know there are a ton of blood vessels in the nose area.

I don’t know the details. Daddy knew him and said the Dr.s could not stop the bleeding despite packing his nose with cotton and probably other attempts to stop it.

I knew a guy that died from a nose bleed in the 70s. He was in the hospital for almost a month trying to get it stopped.

I had a really bad nosebleed once - scary. You use what’s called a “tamponade” to stop it. Bandages rolled tight, pushed up inside to block the bleeding. I remember thinking that it was ridiculous that I was actually in danger from a stupid bloody nose. But I keep up on my vitamin c and hydration now, Lol...

How very nice-—please add me to your ping list.

The Mideast is in the news on page 2. The more things change etc.-———.

I also got a kick out of an article that referred to the porch as a “piazza”. That’s what my grandmother always called her porch.

“I think Attila The Hun also died from a nosebleed.”

Yes he did or so we are told. I always felt he was assassinated as he lay drunk. A sharp narrow shaft driven up the nostril and into the brain would do the job nicely. It would look like a nosebleed and since there were no forensics like today it would be an almost perfect crime.

I had nosebleeds for a while when I was a kid. I could feel it coming on, a burning sensation, then a slight “pop” then that metallic smell, then the blood pouring out. Didn’t happen more than a couple of times. It was more of an embarrassment than anything else, no thought to it being potentially fatal.

Wow I didn’t know a person could die from that, but I guess one could if it never stopped. I broke my nose once when I was 13 and I would get vicious nosebleeds on an off until they had to cauterize it a few times, but wow, I definitely know what it feels like to drown in ones own blood. I’m 54 now and I remember that like it was yesterday, blood gushing down my throat, coming out my mouth, very scary but it always stopped once I put cotton up my nose. If I knew I could die from it I probably would have been freakin’ out a lot more.
