My wife is from the same island as Duterte, so she watches news programs from the Philippines every day (via YouTube), and keeps me up to date on what is happening.

I have a big attachment to the Philippines with family there and having lived there for 5 years, and I’m not sure how I feel about this. Most people I talk to love Duterte so far, but this practice of killing people without due process sets a very bad precedent.

Having lived in the southern PI in the late 70's and early 80's, I know what Davao City was like before Duterte's brand of policing took hold - a dangerous place where you could not walk down the street without almost certainly being robbed. That's from the viewpoint of an American. The daily reality for the Cebuanos and Illongos in that city was much more violent.
As effective as Duterte has been against the drug trade, I really like having some Constitutional protections from 'leaders' - including those who claim they stomp on rights for our benefit.

Interesting read...looks like this President is his own man and doing more than taking control of things...he’s cracking a whip!.....Sometimes a heavy hand has to work when things are so corrupt and out of control......he also seems to understand he only has a window of time to do this.
