They hate the conservatives because the conservatives have been saying “you’re wrong.”

The message that gains more ears than “you’re wrong” is “this is how to get right.”

I think it’s more than that.

For some years now I’ve noted that the DNC itself, particularly Obama or Clinton, have been surrounded by a steady stream of lesser scandals that ultimately the Administration seems to have been the source of, not Wikilinks or any outside party.

I’ve noted how, time and again, it is as you say: Republicans (not just conservatives) tend to care about these scandals ... and we talk about them a lot.

All along, well before Obama, I’ve likewise observed that so-called “progressives” have a remarkable faculty for getting over bad things about their own, of coming to consider it old news and thereafter not only have an easier time getting over things only that bad (and a little worse) but also adopting an attitude that others are just scandal mongering to bring them up again ... they are after all “old news”.

In light of the last I’ve long observed that “progressives” tend to therefore lack the ability to finally take offense at what our Founders characterized as a long train of abuses ... they keep all scandals, or at least the ones about “progressives” more or less compartmentalized from the others. Scandals never add up to a bigger picture.

Additionally, there is something that has been gnawing at the back of my mind that I’ve only recently found a way to adequately express and it is this: “progressives” often care more about wrong-doers than wrong-doing and as a consequence they seek to impose ideas like due process onto the arena of public opinion. In essence: the lack of a conviction for some misdeed means it basically didn’t happen so there should be no political ramifications.

IOW, “progressives” are basically immune to caring about scandals surrounding their own unless something is so horrifically bad that it disabuses them all at once.

If they cannot dismiss wrongdoing as minor, if they cannot dismiss it as some right wing conspiracy, then they can dismiss it on the grounds that no one was convicted so it obviously is just made up.

This, I’m convinced, is why they are so full of rage at Assange now even though just a few years ago he was a hero of the left: he is making them have to circle the wagons over things that they have a hard time simply dismissing, blaming on Republicans, and which casts their whole “no conviction” defense into doubt.

They’ve had to invent a new defense mechanism: it is wrong for us to know or, failing that, they seek to engage other’s emotions by demanding how they would feel to have their secrets revealed to the whole world and in doing so basically lump in ordinary people who have issues with those in positions of Trust who are abusing powers or engaging in Pay to Play.

The left is being revealed as naked-partisans, just like old school Communists and their fellow travelers, and not fair minded “liberals” and they don’t like it.

Now, what all that has to do with my earlier observation about the steady stream of scandalous information from Democrats is simply this: I have exactly a low enough opinion of Obama or the Clintons to believe them capable of trying to manage scandal with scandal.

Which is to say our “progressive” friends are in a proverbial frying pan, reflexively defending others from any whiff of scandal as I’ve outlined, and by keeping the scandal train steady as well as slowly ramping it up their elites are basically turning up the heat.

Whereas in the old days, early after the brilliance of Hillary’s “vast right-wing conspiracy” quip on which so much of this is built, they tried to keep scandals from happening it seems as if they’ve finally figured out that they can manipulate their base into not caring one jot about any sort of wrongdoing by them provided they can keep them in the habit of circling the wagons and no new scandal is dramatically worse than the last.

This has been, I would suggest, going on since at least before Obama was reelected if not as early as soon after Obamacare’s passage.

The result is that 1) Republicans are in a tizzy and 2) “progressives” are far more resistant to even caring, even beyond caring (turning up the heat as I’ve described is a kind of searing of the conscience).

Ironically, #1 actually helps reinforce #2 ... not because people are wrong to be upset about wrongdoing but because the wrong people are upset about wrongdoing ... and the right people don’t seem to care so there must be nothing in it all.
