I found the moving boring with no direction. Perhaps it's because Stanley Kubrick died while directing and it was finished by Spielberg. I don't think you'll find any public record indicating Spielberg had anything to do with it. I just recall this as news at the time.
[Here's the point. Bill, the protagonist has discovered a secret sex cult of obviously very wealthy and very influential people. Bill went in under a disguise but was caught anyway. Here is being talked to by his very wealthy friend who admits he is a member ....]
From the wikipedia entry https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyes_Wide_Shut
"Bill is summoned to Ziegler's house, where he is confronted with the events of the past night and day. Ziegler was one of those involved with the ritual orgy, and identified Bill and his connection with Nick. His own position with the secret society has been jeopardized by Bill's intrusion since Ziegler recommended Nick for the job. Ziegler claims that he had Bill followed for his own protection, and that the warnings made against Bill by the society are only intended to scare him from speaking about the orgy. But he implies the society is capable of acting on their threats, telling Bill: "If I told you their names, I don't think you'd sleep so well".
The film I recall Spielberg collaborating on with Kubrick was A.I.
I understand that a lot of the movie was edited out after Kubrick’s death and before release.
What’s your point?

lots of stuff about it being Kubrick’s expose on the Illuminati types in NYC. Conspiracy theory is that he was “offed” for revealing too much, and that is why a lot was cut out of the movie before it’s release.
Kubrick,,,
Where do you Start,
Where does it End?
I was generally a Kubrick fan, but considered this film to be a rare misfire for him.
Worst film I have ever seen.
A profoundly moving film in an eerie way, especially in the light of the wikileaks disclosures.
