Drug overdose deaths have increased by 33 percent in the past five years across the country, with some states seeing jumps of nearly 200 percent.
According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 30 states saw increases in overdose deaths resulting from the abuse of heroin and prescription painkillers, a class of drugs known as opioids. New Hampshire saw a 191 percent increase while North Dakota, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maine had death rates jump by over 100 percent.

Obama’s fault.
Should have nuked the poppy fields in Afghanistan.
This the Obama legacy. The youth of this country have no hope and have given up. Our youth comprise a huge portion of the 95 million who have dropped out of the work force.
Add police shootings and the decline of life expectancy under this clown!
Fentanyl laced heroin probably takes credit for a healthy percentage of the increase.

You are exactly right.
Making schedule 2 drugs schedule 1?
I have heard by some deserves some of the blame.
Thoughts?
Remember. People who don’t do heroin, don’t overdose from heroin.
Your choice.
The deadliest heroin is black tar, much more than then brown heroin pushed by the cartels. All black tar heroin comes from one specific area in Mexico, and the dealers make home deliveries and try to recruit youngsters as they hang out around schools and hand out free samples.
They got their CommieCare bills and decided to do it quicker and painlessly!
Prescription opioid overdoses were bad so fedgov made the drugs harder to get (Schmuck Schoomer had a lot to do with this). What was available on the street became very expensive. Junkies being junkies, they were going to get their fix somehow. Along comes heroin and synthetic opioids that are cheaper and way more potent than scarce prescription opioids. Voila! Increase in deaths from overdoses.
I doubt that very much of this increase is due to deaths from prescription opioids but that is the party line so that has to get included in the story. This is the Law of Unintended Consequences at work once again.
BS, what they don’t tell you is that most OD on illegal drugs taken with legal drugs or with booze, which you are not supposed to mix together. What it has resulted in is any chronic pain patient and there are 1.33 million of us, have been RESTRICTED on the amount and have to go to Pain Management which is a $300 Co-pay just to pee in a bottle even at 80 years old under guard so you don’t sub some another’s urine for yours. WE don’t abuse our meds. Most of them just bring pain level down from a 9 to a 4, so you can function.
Even Lyrica is on the list Neurotin goes on it next year. These are nerve pain drugs. TONS of side effects, not recommended by me more addictive than Valium that is also on the list and actually works. My new one Keppra is worthless, Neurologist ticked off all the nerve pain drugs from the Military Formulary as to dangerous. All Keppra does is make you sleep does not work on nerve damage pain. I am only allowed a total of two 10 mg of Valium per day, both by the DEA and FDA. My entire right side has nerve damage from a degenerative spine, their CRAP FDA Flagged drugs caused I was never told that they caused brittle bones and spine degeneration.
MMJ laced with other illegal drugs too. Even my Neurologist has suggested MMJ, I don’t smoke, and am not about to start, I watched both my parents die of Lung Cancer. And it is still federally illegal and my state illegal. NO CONTROLS on production like script meds have. They can grow the crap with human or animal feces and you’d not know it or lace it with heroin, no way to control the content either.
Do you support letting others use MMJ for pain relief?
