Although getting appointed to an assistant federal district attorney IS INDEED a political process, not all of these prosecutors are political tools. The US Attorney over any particular district is a different matter.

"...done more gently..."?

What did you want to happen? Write it in big red crayola so the snowflakes wouldn't melt, like they're doing now? A ban is a ban. Hard to do it "gently".

I don't think Trump needs Sessions' approval before signing a presidential EO instituting an immigration ban. His WH counsel, Donald McGahn, would have advised on this one.

Trump is on solid legal ground with this ban, contrary to all you hear and read in the Leftist media.

We are conflating a Federal Attorney with federal prosecutor.
A Federal Attorney is a real piece of work.
Don’t screw with them.
They are unique in our system in that they can point a finger at you and you are marched off to jail.

‘Bush 43 and Clinton both did it before having an AG in place. (it took Clinton 3 tries before Janet Reno, remember?) ‘

Good point.

Depending on the AG and the political environment, it usually takes weeks to get reliable people in place in the Justice Department so that temporary and permanent replacements for the US Attorneys can be solicited and cleared for appointment. Without such preparation, the US Attorney offices end up under the control of a senior staff attorney who may be less capable and trustworthy than the US Attorney appointee who served Obama. As it happens, many US Attorneys function as relatively apolitical careerists, and at least one well-regarded US Attorney (Preet Bharara in Brooklyn) has been asked and has agreed to stay on under Trump.

Maybe he’s waiting for Jeff Sessions to get approved by the Senate.

And replace them with who?

New US Attorneys. It's standard practice.

You can put money on it that Sessions will take care of these traitors. There is a lot of housecleaning to do in Justice. All the SESers should be fired asap.

You can’t file ALL federal prosecutors. The federal court system would come to a halt. Who’s going to prosecute the thousands of federal cases currently pending?

Yes you can. It happens every time a new party takes over. Every US Attorney has a staff of attorney's that handle most of the case work. And not all of them will be gone for good. Some will be retained after requesting their resignations.

You’re talking about firing all US attorneys that’s a lot different than firing all Federal prosecutors.

Good point. THEN fire Obama’s prosecutors.

No, I don’t question that the (temporary) ban was legal. Just that the uproar might put Sessions’s approval at risk.

I hope not.

The only worthwhile writer at NR, Andy McCarthy, I think gives a pretty good explanation as to how the ban could and should have been implemented more gently:

It would not have mattered. The rollout was as gentle as it was ever going to be. All of this manufactured chaos is leftist garbage with MSM support.

You watch, they will protest and get ugly no matter what he does.

New US Attorneys. It's standard practice.

There are about a hundred U.S. Attorneys, about 350 Assistant U.S. Attorneys, and even more layers of lawyers under them. Fire all of them in week one then what happens while you are rebuilding your staff from scratch?

Sure they will—but Trump didn’t need to give them a ready handle to grab onto.

More critically, the GOPe is undermining both the tax cuts and the repeal of Obamacare. The tax cuts (and immigration issues and the SC nominee) are of the highest priority for Trump reviving the economy and gaining favorability with the electorate.

Drudge highlighted this story overnight, but it’s not getting any attention here. The GOPe is now claiming that tax cuts will have to wait until the spring of 2018! That is too late to have any effect on the economy in time for the 2018 election, after which, at this rate, the GOPe will be able to go back to blaming split rule in Congress as their excuse for doing nothing!

The enemedia can only process one fake outrage at a time. DJT must parcel out his changes so the opposition party has time to gin up the headlines he’ll be proving wrong later in the day.

I don’t always believe everything on yahoo. That said, the Senate GOP is going to be problematic.
