Oprah Winfrey is expected to visit the kingdom twice in 2017...Jeddah in September, and Riyadh in December. Her tour is part of the General Entertainment Authority schedule for the year.
As a member of an all-female talk show, she will be discussing her media experience and the hardships she faced on her journey to becoming one of the world's top media personalities.
“We are at the start of an exciting journey in Saudi Arabia, as we build an entertainment industry that gives people happy memories and puts smiles on their faces," said Amr AlMadani, CEO of the General Entertainment Authority.
Other entertainment events are scheduled for later this year including Cirque du Soleil, the Russian Grand Circus of Moscow, and Indian-American novelist Deepak Chopra.
One such woman is Nayla, who was featured in The New York Times in 2008. Nayla would send letters to Oprah - one every month- hoping to get a response from her icon.
"I feel that Oprah truly understands me," Nayla told the New York Times back then.
"She gives me energy and hope for my life. Sometimes I think that she is the only person in the world who knows how I feel."
Nayla isn't alone in this. Winfrey - especially her program "The Oprah Winfrey Show" - is a major hit there.
As soon as it began airing in Saudi Arabia in 2004, it became the highest-rated English language program among young women.

I have no problem with Oprah going to Saudi Arabia. It’s her coming back that I have a problem with.

Oprah’s original name was Orpah, but she changed the spelling later — look it up. I’m guessing she is trying to go back to the land of Moab, since she is mentioned in the first chapter of the Book of Ruth.
The way I heard her tell it, way back when, she was supposed to be named Orpah, but someone was dyslexic and misspelled it as “Oprah” on her birth certificate.
