These photographs capture the day David Lloyd George cosied up to Hitler during a pre-war trip to Germany before hailing him as 'the greatest living German'.

The grainy black and white images shows the politician and his entourage travelling around Germany in 1936, where they dined with the Nazi ruler and rode together on new autobahns.

The 16mm propaganda film also captures Lloyd George schmoozing and laughing with the dictator as he tours a Bavarian town.

This is 1938 not 1933. One had to be intentionally blind not to see the evil Hitler has already done.

JFK's father, Joseph Kennedy, was a big Hitler enthusiast.

In fact, so much so that FDR had to withdraw him as US ambassador to Britain.

Avery Brundage of the US Olympic committee was another big Hitler enthusiast.

If greatest is talking about influence, then the declaration isn't wrong. No German in history has had more impact on history than Hitler. Of course, his impact was entirely negative, as he is one of the most evil men who ever lived. But there is no denying that his life influenced the entire world.

Again, let me re-emphasize so that no one misses my point, the influence was entirely negative and evil but it was impact. I'm NOT praising Hitler. The world would have been a far better place had he never been born.

Chamberlain knew war was inevitable. But at the time Britain was in no shape to fight.

But Chamberlain made damned sure afterwards that Britain would be ready in due time.

At the time, many still felt the Soviet Union was the bigger threat (a view that wasn’t entirely incorrect), and saw Hitler as being potentially useful against the Soviet Union.

Maybe he thought it would help diversity if Germany and England got along better?
