"Beloved former WWE commentator Jim Ross broke the news of his wife’s death on Twitter Wednesday night, two days after a horrific road accident critically damaged her brain and skull. She was 55.

“A Priest gave my wife Jan her last rites tonight,” Ross wrote on Twitter. “My little Angel is gone.”

The WWE Hall of Famer had been posting updates and prayers on his Twitter page since Monday night, when Jan was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Jan was riding her Vespa home from their local Oklahoma gym when a vehicle hit her from behind, according to TMZ. Without a helmet for protection, Jan suffered brain damage and multiple skull fractures, requiring emergency surgery.

“We need a miracle,” Ross wrote in the wee hours of Tuesday morning."

Had a neighbor who was an avid bicyclist get sideswiped by a car and directly hit his head on the curb....Fortunately, he had a helmut on.....

Unfortunately, the helmut only provided limited protection, he had to relearn how to walk and use his arms....He’s fully recovered after 2 years of therapy....

He rides motorcycles now....

She was riding a moped. She should have been wearing a helmet.

I just have more respect for the value of my own life than to risk it on a Vespa in traffic.
Roads are full of distracted morons.

My motorcycle days were blessed to be in the early 70’s on the central California coast.

Little traffic, great weather, no cell phone distracted drivers.

And yet, I lost many fellow riders:

Trains in the fog,
On-coming cars crossing the yellow line on winding roads,
Dogs in the road,
Drunk drivers,
etc....

Me, too. Little Honda 350SL — a “hybrid” on-road / off-road bike that wasn’t any good for either. I remember riding down Highway 1 from SF to Big Basin to go camping. The road was blessedly empty in ‘73. Only had it a couple years because the salty SF air was eating up all the aluminum. Didn’t lose any friends, but my Best Man has a short leg after a side-Swipe accident.

The Devil’s Slide area just south of Pacifica always scared me. Narrow, and you can’t see around the corner, and traffic moves fast.

I moved away, but apparently Highway 1 now goes through a mountain and avoids Devil’s Slide altogether.

I was 13 and riding my bicycle (no helmet... hey it was the early ‘70s) when I was hit from behind by a guy in a VW Bug. I was launched back onto his hood as the back end of the bike got stuck and crushed up under the car. Collapsed his hood. Got up and took a few deep breaths to make sure things were in working order. The driver got out and scrambled over to see if I was okay. Had a couple of minor scrapes on my elbows but otherwise fine. The driver and I managed to pry my bike out from under his car. He double-checked to make sure I was good and then got in his car and was about to drive off when we heard the WHOOP-WHOOP of a police car pulling up.

I remember hearing the driver looking back and saying “shiiii....”. And the next thing I know, he’s handcuffed and sitting in the back of the police cruiser. DUI.

After taking a report, another officer pulled up and he stuffed my bike in his trunk and drove me home. Neither of my parents were at home so he left me his card and a copy of the police report to give them and off he went.

I don’t really remember what happened, if anything, after that. I know my parents called the officer and I remember my brother wouldn’t let me ride his bike the rest of the summer.... Haha, Seems like things were much simpler back then...

Sorry to hear this.
Ol’ JR has had his share of adversity with the Bells palsy.

Having lost my own angel I know just how he’s feeling.
55 is too young.

Can’t fault her for not wearing a helmet, I’ve always hated the things.
