Rescuers are asking boat captains to be on the lookout for a gray whale caught in a crab trap heading north along Orange County’s coastline... “We felt very uncertain about what damage it would cause to the whale with this unusual entanglement,”

If you are out on the water and see a whale in distress, call 1-877-SOS-WHALE.

Should be easy to find, unless this is a new whale fad.

“I heard that is a Marine Biologist.”

George Costanza:
He has variously been described as a “short, stocky, slow-witted, bald man” and “Lord of the Idiots”.

Poor whale. I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more frequently. Though the writer interviewed someone who said this is the forth whale rescue he’s been involved with over the last few months. I don’t know if the other three were due to the same situation with a Crab Trap.
Eventually, it would be good if those traps could be made of biodegradable material of some sort. Tortoises and Terrapin also get tangled up in material we discard into the sea.

That would be a Dungeness crab pot, not a king, opillio etc.

Deadliest Catch is about Alaskan crab in Alaska - different species and far larger. Those pots are 700lbs while Dungeness is about 90-100lbs far smaller.

Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove, off the Oregon Coast.

IIRC, the traps used were cylindrical?

The one shown is rectangular?

Mostly, I just eat them.

“Eventually, it would be good if those traps could be made of biodegradable material of some sort. Tortoises and Terrapin also get tangled up in material we discard into the sea.”

If they were biodegradable we could just leave them by the side of the road. Which somehow ties into the thread about Huma Abedin planning Hillary Clinton’s funeral, but maybe only in my head.
