CNN last night...work. So bad...
CNN News | 4 April 2017 | Mene Mene Tekel Upharsin

CNN was on last night at work as usual (24/7). They were talking about the confirmation of Gorsuch. The commentator talked about the voting process and said, "...for years it has taken 60 votes to confirm a judge. The Republicans are considering the Nuclear Option by changing the rules to allow a 51-vote majority to confirm Gorsuch."

It took everything I had to not scream out loud that it was the Democrats who changed the rules. Now that the rules THEY made are being used against them, they are going nuts and so is the propaganda arm, CNN. Hope Rush Limbaugh grabs a sound bite of that.

Trying to call this to someone's attention. She did not even mention that the Democrats changed the rules from a 60 vote majority to the 51-49 rule. She made it sound like the Republicans were changing the rules.

The Democrats didn’t change the rules for SCOTUS nominees, just regular Federal judges, so Obama could pack the courts with nincompoops................

Plus, Thomas and Alioto were confirmed with less than 60...so she was wrong again...

It’s always only taken 51 votes to confirm a Justice. It takes 60 to defeat a filibuster.

That’s what I meant. Anyway, if someone can get the recording of that woman talking about 7:35-40 last night, you’ll hear the outright lie by omission.

They are talking about the mere force and logic of tradition (”but, we’ve always done it this way!”) It has been in place for less than 100 years, for a third of that span nominees didn’t even appear at hearings. Since Bork, it’s a whole new ball game. Respecting tradition in the face of fundamentally changed conditions (because tradition) would be very stupid. I say blow it away with a relatively uncontroversial nominee like Gorsuch, then it’s not even in the picture in say, July when Ginsberg or Kennedy resigns and Ted Cruz can be nominated. Not only will their heads blow up, but Ted will mercilessly eviscerate the Democrats in a confirmation hearing.

Apples an oranges.

The 60 votes threshold is for cloture, or closing down of the debate to proceed to the confirmation vote.

After that a simple majority is all that’s necessary.................

I also “hoped” Rush would help too, but instead he inferred that Tom Brady is taking performance enhancing drugs so he can keep playing so well after age 40. Rush lets me down now and then.
