Central islip and surrounding towns are NOT repeat NOT THE burbs.
And they weren’t going as far back when I moved to the island, out of that cesspool called NYC back in 1964. There were burbs out here then and now. Nice places then and now.
Those places are more like the urban sprawl of LA.

hate to be the one to break the bad news to you, but any place which requires you to drive someplace to buy milk is definitely the ‘burbs.
When I need to buy milk, I take the elevator and walk across the street. Ditto for wine. Coffee & breakfast is on same block.
