A Banks County sheriffs deputy was shot in the chest at the Tanger Outlet mall in Commerce about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, the sheriffs office said.
He was wearing a bulletproof vest and is expected to be OK, GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said.
Deputies first responded to a reported armed robbery in progress at the Atlanta Dragway, the sheriffs office said in a news release. The suspect stole a car and drove toward the outlet mall.

"He is described as in his 40s with short hair, approximately 6 feet tall and 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing dark clothing."
He is described as a black male in his 40s with short hair, approximately 6 feet tall, 170 pounds, wearing dark clothing.
So the lunatic leftists at the Atlanta Journal Constitution would have us look for any man in his 40s with short hair. They are quick to point out race when it fits their agenda like out of control cops but never mention race in these situations, where a black person is out of control. They rather get someone killed than put out an accurate description.
I should have said the Banks County GA Sheriff’s Department face book page.
Well, adding the fact that he is black, while more descriptive is still hardly helpful at all...
If the spot a horse and buggy get-a-way vehicle, I might would suspect an Amish.
I have an older 2nd Chance level II vest. Anyone know, do those things deteriorate with age, uh, like a spouse?
Glad to hear the officer will be okay.
We had a state trooper killed today in Delaware in a shooting at a local convenience store. They all have vests but his didn’t help in this situation. We still don’t have all the details but they have one of the perps in a standoff a couple miles from the shooting.
GA FReeper ping.
Found this on-line, so, of course, it is absolutely true (/sarc):

Oh, the worst dangers to kevlar are UV rays, generally UVa/UVb rays significantly deteriorate kevlar after 24 months-”coincidentally” this is when many police departments rotate theirs out, so be careful buying surplus.
Many ads for vests tout the pieces UV resistance for this reason, but they will all decay and lose strength after enough exposure to light.

Lots of modern carriers are designed to block most of the UV. www.bulletproofme.com has shown lots of old vests still work just fine. High temps (car trunk, etc.) kill the fancy polymer alternatives.

So, if the vest is kept out of UV light, and out of the car trunk, it should be okay.
You don’t do a yearly test on yours?

HEAVY SARCASM and YMMV.
I’ve heard of Darwin candidates who did exactly that, mah brah.
LR, the Second Chance has been in the bottom of an armoire for years, unworn, room temp. I was wondering if just age affected strength. Anyway I folded over and planished some 18 gauge plate and slipped that in front of the ballistic fabric, so I think I’m OK for pistol rounds.
And I recently got a carrier with front and back level IV ceramic plates for rifle rounds.
Also rigged groin and shaped thigh plates from plate and kevlar. (I have a mortal fear of getting plugged in the crotch.)
My wife wonders about me, I think, but I assure her that it isn’t paranoia if people really do hate you. (SEE: Berzerkely)
Neglect your upper body but work your legs. That stuff’s heavy.
So bring on the zombie apocalypse .... are you ready?
No. Not nearly enough food or ammo.
But I am also far away from the urban areas and stay away from them. And I DO have food and ammo, just not enough.
