Wonder if those who didn’t believe were even there.

Only to point this out...but once you say ‘Vietnam vets’...you are talking about mostly men...over the age of 58 today.

If the study had included a hundred Falklands War vets and a hundred Gulf War vets, with the same conclusions...then I’d be interested to hear more.

I will share this...I worked with a guy in the 1990s while in the military. I considered the guy to be ‘normal’ and without any mental issues. Around 2005, I came into contact with the guy and he’d had a minor stroke at age 39. My perception was that he had some type of brain damage. Nine months later, the military spoke up and said that the guy had become bi-polar. He was not capable of being trusted (at least in my book). Far as I know....no one ever did any test for brain lesions but I would take a guess that he had that problem.

No one is going to do tests on these guys and their ailments. But this might be one of those efforts to spend some research dollars and see where this goes.

What causes the co-existence of nineteenth century European materialist philosophy and totalitarian altruism?

ROFL! God said he would give people over to a debase mind, a conscience seared with a hot iron, that heard the message and reject Him. I wonder how many of these ‘religious people’ were Christians.

Pffff, whatever: “often combined with science denial and violence”. That right there shows their own bias, this notion that all must agree when consensus mandates it. That, is anti-science.

The thrust of research shows that religious people (defined as church-attending) work, accumulate wealth, and are married. If we want to talk brain-damaged, I wouldn’t call Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, Kim, Saddam, or the people on this list:

athiests. But, they all are.

From the man (loosely-termed) who wrote such riveting stuff as What Machiavelli Can Teach You About Leadership and Artificial Human Wombs Closer As Scientists Grow Lambs In Unique “BioBags” (but that latter one is for preemies, not zygotes).

It might be curious to see if degree of inbreeding in Muslim populations correlates with propensity to violent jihadism. But I would not hang mouth open before engaging brain.

Previous studies have shown conservatives are much more sane and know more than liberals.

They also show that conservatives willingly give more charity.

So, I do not believe this study is valid.

RE: They also show that conservatives willingly give more charity.

Libs consider that insane. They believe that money should be sent to government so that they can “help” people.

Hitler worshipped power. The essential question of life is whether there exists truth, objectivity, right and wrong. Without a believe in truth, all that remains is power.

(I realize there are some self-proclaimed atheists who claim to believe in truth without believing that there is a source of truth. They are quibbling with words.)

Interesting. My daughter with brain damage is much more religious than her brother and sister.

She’s going off to a 4 year college in the fall. Wonder if I can use this against the college if they pull any anti-religious crap. She’s going to college in California.

That’s what I think is happening with my daughter.

The more she understands about her own brain damage, the more grateful she is that it wasn’t worse. She’s also much more grateful for me. She’s doing well in college, and she sees lots of special needs kids that can’t handle college at all.
