President Donald J. Trump fired now-former FBI Director James Comey to send a message to Senator John McCain, sources close to the White House confirm.
Earlier this year, McCain went after Trump with widely discredited opposition research that he immediately shared with Comey, his longtime friend.
Comey worked with McCain to go after businessman Jack Abramoff after Abramoff stopped McCain from winning the Republican Primary in 2000.
McCain has since been working with FBI Director Comey to help undermine President Trump since Trump was elected.
The FBI firing move, which did not leak, was carried out by White House counsel Don McGahn and Attorney General Jeff Sessions. President Trump deliberately kept Reince Priebus and Sean Spicer in the dark to keep them from leaking.

This is just silly. Can't we at FR be smarter than this? Comey should have been fired by Obama last year when Comey did that terrible news conference where he listed all of Hillary's wrongdoing and then usurped the roles of prosecutor, judge and jury by saying there was no intent and no "reasonable" prosecutor would indict. Comey was left in place by Obama specifically to put Trump in the position of eventually having to fire Comey thereby setting off the typical Washington and media nonsense called a "firestorm" of a "constitutional crisis."
Get real people. Please. There's too much at stake for those on our side to not focus on the facts as laid out in the Deputy AG's letter. This president needs us to be on point and have his back. No one else does. It's up to us.

Actually they had a big falling out. When Martha got out of prison, Trump arranged to get her an Apprentice show of her own. She proceeded to try and get his cancelled, so she would be the only Apprentice show on the air, and she could take over the entire franchise.
I saw Trump talking about it once, and he was clearly stung, most of all, by the disloyalty.

Well, there is no doubt the real pain in Trump's side is John McPain....
We all need to start digging into McPain's past and find every ounce of dirt on that rat we can find... Everyone has skeletons in their closet and I'm sure Juan has more his share....
