Tasmania Police Officers Take Selfie With Drunk Man, Social Media Approves

The actions of two Tasmanian police officers who delivered a drunk man home and babysat him until a friend arrived have set social media alight.

On Saturday night, police officers were contacted by a taxi company for help in getting a man affected by alcohol home safely.

Senior Sergeant Craig Fox said when police arrived, "they found out the man's address, took him home and waited for a friend to arrive to look after him".

Officers then used the man's mobile phone to take a selfie, with the inebriated man pictured giving the thumbs-up from his bed, "in the likely event he could not remember how he got home," Sgt Fox said.

The man, Reece, woke the next day and discovered the image, with a friend later posting the photo to the popular social forum Reddit.

"So was just looking through my phone and turns out these good c**** took some banger selfies after they took my drunk ass home," he wrote. "Bloody legends."

The post caused bewilderment and debate among people who commented police where they lived were unlikely to be so generous.

"Let me get this straight. You black out, cops find you, and you wake up in your own bed and not a jail cell/drunk tank? What fairy-tale land do you dwell in?" asked one reader. "Lol maybe in Australia. In the US, you can and most often are taken to something they call the drunk tank which is a jail cell for the night while you sober up," wrote another.

Tasmania Police shared Reece's post on their Facebook page, where it has accumulated over 8,000 'likes' and almost 800 shares.

Senior Sergeant Fox said police did not normally drive people home who were suffering from the effects of alcohol and would prefer if party-goers pre-arranged a designated driver, used public transport or organised a taxi if they were intending to have a big night.

"Make a plan about how you will get home before you have a drink. Then there's no risk to you, your family, friends or others on the road," he said.

Lucky for him he must not have been combative, so they were nice to him. My first two guesses of location were wrong. I was certain this must have happened in either England or Canada. I see now it was from down under.
He’s not too big on room decor, is he?

Droogs is a new word for me.
It means street gang member or friend.
I did notice all three looked to be about the same age.
They may have already known the drunk guy, and that he was mostly non-violent. I’ll bet actually tucking him into bed under pulled over blankets was her idea. “Let’s tuck the poor Bloke into bed, he’s bloody knackered!”

Knarf, if you ever get a chance watch “Upper Middle Bogan”

It is an Oz show and explains bogan perfectly. (It is also very funny) Bogans are like the RSA’s zef’s. Freepers would fit in with them and they would fit in with us.

Come to think of it, lets trade. Snowflake for bogan or zef on a 1 to 1 deal. (We would be ripping them off hardcore.)

I picked up droogs from Kubrick's "A Clockword Orange"

The "star" is Alex and he and his buddy's are "droogs", probably an invented word for the movie set in England.

It's a weird but poignant (for lack of a better word) movie.
