This entire article oozes with stupidity...yet the more I read, the more certain I have become that in the very near future, some statist lunatic will try to impose an 'idling ban' on me.

Why are Zuck’s security not operating ELECTRIC vehicles?

Put the Zuck on battery power.

They could really fix all of this if they just passed a law saying you can’t leave your home without a really good reason permitted by the government.

Think of all the gas we would save.

students handed out pledge cards for parents to sign

They'd not like it when I handed it back, along with a suggestion as to where to put it.

Elementary school kids lecturing grownups. And who do you suppose put them up to it?

Today’s engines are no doubt better in this regard but used to be it took more gas to start the engine than it did to idle for a few minutes.

To address this issue, the students handed out pledge cards for parents to sign................brownshirt yutes. What will be next? Turning in the parents for re-education camps?

I’m sure the left has already planned a way to limit driving miles to whatever is necessary to serve the state.

"Elementary school kids lecturing grownups. And who do you suppose put them up to it?"

Next the teachers will get the kids to 'report' their parents for environmental crimes.

Mileage tax. Been proposed in multiple states over the past few years, don’t doubt it will becone law somewhere soon enough.

The article states the gas needed at startup equals 30 seconds of idling. I have no idea if that's true.

But to worry about those types of semantics misses a larger point. Its nobody's business if I idle my car. Its in the 90's with 95% humidity where I'm at right now - so of course I'm going to idle my car...for my personal comfort. Once that is deemed too frivolous in the fight to save Gaia, its not a big leap before the gubmint is controlling my house thermostat and limiting the number of showers I can take.

Anyone ever been at a traffic light with dozens of cars stopped from each direction? EVERYONE has! Why is that? Usually it’s because someone had a turn arrow and one or two cars go through and are long gone while we all burn “precious” fossil fuels.

Why doesn’t goverment make use of the technology available to keep us moving along? They only use technology to oppress and constrict us. Plenty of red light cameras around and there is lots of money for the pols to manage in it.

The other day I came upon 2 heavily traveled, different lights during rush hour, in the rain. I didn’t notice the lights were out at first. Usually they are backed up with a hundred cars. There were 3 or 4 at this time because drivers were carefully making their way through the intersection on their own! Those lights shouldn’t even be there.

This quote will find its way to DU as an example of FR conservative thinking in 3...2...1...

Hmm, sitting in a car in a hot climate without idling to run the A/C is a recipe for disaster.

IIRC Palo Alto rarely experiences extremes of temperature as do most parts of the country. But in most parts of the country such extremes routinely occur in January and/or July.

Agreed 100%. They are already doing that in some places. A freeper said he got a ticket for idling his car in his driveway...that infuriated me.

I detest and despise these nanny-staters who want to tell you what to eat or drink, what kind of light bulb you can have in your house, what your water temp has to be, etc.

The idling in driveway ticket is for a different nanny reason...they’re afraid somebody is going to hop in your car and steal it. Makes me wonder when women will be ticketed for wearing expensive jewelry, or carrying purses with weak straps.
