Trump voter-fraud panel’s data request a gold mine for hackers, experts warn (NOW they care)

Cybersecurity specialists are warning that President Donald Trump’s voter-fraud commission may unintentionally expose voter data to even more hacking and digital manipulation.

Their concerns stem from a letter the commission sent to every state this week, asking for full voter rolls and vowing to make the information “available to the public.” The requested information includes full names, addresses, birth dates, political party and, most notably, the last four digits of Social Security numbers. The commission is also seeking data such as voter history, felony convictions and military service records.

Digital security experts say the commission’s request would centralize and lay bare a valuable cache of information that cyber criminals could use for identity theft scams — or that foreign spies could leverage for disinformation schemes.

“It is beyond stupid,” said Nicholas Weaver, a computer science professor at the University of California at Berkeley.

“The bigger the purse, the more effort folks would spend to get at it,” said Joe Hall, chief technologist at the Center for Democracy and Technology, a digital advocacy group. “And in this case, this is such a high-profile and not-so-competent tech operation that we're likely to see the hacktivists and pranksters take shots at it.”

They even write the headline as “Trump vote fraud.” Politico gives me such a headache.

This all began under GWB in 2002 and was ignored.
Vote Swapping between CA and Red-Purple States using absentee ballets.
All run off of Craigslist.

The info already exists in a state gov database.

It’s all already been hacked to the hackers hearts’ content.

Another excuse by the co-conspirators and accessories to criminal acts and actions. That’s all the “hacker” claim is.

If trump had used voter fraud, he sure as hell would NOT ask for a commission to investigate it...

If the democrats didn’t use voter fraud, they sure as hell would NOT try to stop the commission...

They only want data available to the public. Hackers can already get it if they want it.

Wow. Why don’t they teach this stuff in school? But since they don’t let me lay out the general principle:

UNPROTECTED DATA IS UNPROTECTED!

*The commission requested “public information”.*

So POLITICO had to invent a strawman.

With a couple of decades of working in elections, I can assure you that the commission WILL find:

1. People registered who are not eligible including over one million illegal aliens, felons, et al.
2. At least a million registered in more than one state.
3. Tens of millions of non-existent phantoms. Trust me, this is the BIGGEST SCAM in vote fraud.
4. Dead people

If the rolls are cleaned up and fraud is suppressed, the dim party will be out of power for decades.

Copied from another thread:

In California, as with all the other states, voter registration is for sale to any party. Here is a list of fields in the voter registration file.

Given that info (which includes, name, date of birth, and address), it would be really simple to cross-check that info with commercial credit-info databases to see if a given person is registered to vote in multiple places, and whether he has.

It would also be easy to cross-check if a registered person has paid taxes, or is a legal citizen -- things the Dems would NOT want to happen.

Knowing Trump, he has almost certainly already gotten all this info via proxies, using his own money, a long time ago, and already has had research done showing where the most fraud has occurred. This is most likely a trap for state officials, where they can be charged with obstruction of justice.

And they didn’t blink at requiring my medical records to be put in a national database. That really angers me — and nobody, anywhere, is talking about getting rid of THAT!

Adding to what I said:

The Post Office has a web feature, available to companies, to validate mailing addresses. Running the voter registration addresses through that, it would be easy to come up with a list of voter registrations to flag, including:

1) Registrations listing a business address (or vacant lot) rather than a residence.

2) Large numbers of people listed at an address which is supposedly a single-family residence.

Once in possession of the data in a standardized format, there are LOTS of computerized cross-checks which could be done.

I wonder if Obama’s secret database is secured properly?

But they didn’t say a word when 30+ million IRS records were stolen (including mine ) .

Not to mention the 22+ million opm records, VA records and Anthem Blue Cross records given away under Barry's watch.

“It is beyond stupid,” said Nicholas Weaver, a computer science professor at the University of California at Berkeley.

Is it legal, Mr. Weaver?
If it is, it isn't stupid after all, is it.
