Charlie Gard’s Mother: “This Has Been Absolute Hell. We Have No Say in His Life Whatsoever”

Charlie Gard’s mother spoke out on British TV this week about her son’s condition and the helplessness she feels as a parent.

Charlie is suffering from a rare mitochondrial disease, and his parents want to take him to the United States for an experimental treatment. His case gained international attention as his parents fought a series of court battles for their son, but ultimately lost. Last week, the European Court of Human Rights ruled against his parents’ appeal to take him to the U.S. A British court also ruled that his life support can be removed against his parents’ wishes.

Connie Yates, Charlie’s mother, told Good Morning Britain this week that she does not want her son to suffer; she just wants him to have a chance at life. She said it has been “absolute living hell” to wait and wonder when the hospital might end his life support.

“He’s our own flesh and blood and we don’t even have a say in his life whatsoever,” Yates said. “We are not bad parents, we are there for him all the time, we are completely devoted to him and he’s not in pain and suffering, and I promise everyone I would not sit there and watch my son in pain and suffering, I couldn’t do it.”

Yates said she has done extensive research about her son’s condition. She said she found an experimental drug in the United States that is being used to treat children with mitochondrial diseases, and they hope Charlie could benefit from it.

She said a U.S. hospital agreed to treat Charlie if they could get him there, and they raised more than $1 million for his treatment. However, the courts have denied them their right to take Charlie to a new hospital.

“There is potential for him to be a completely normal boy but we don’t know because we just don’t know until we try,” Yates told the TV show. “I’ve heard from doctors that there’s around a 10% chance of this working for Charlie so I think that’s a good enough chance to take.”

Later, she added: “I don’t understand it, euthanasia is illegal, suicide is illegal. How is this legal? It’s in his best interests to have a chance at life.”

She also said the hospital put off removing Charlie’s life support after Pope Francis and U.S. President Donald Trump became involved.

“It does give us a hope definitely, because there was no hope left. Charlie was going to die on Friday and, you saw the video we did, we were absolutely devastated,” Yates said. “And then it was going to be on the Monday instead but I think the White House got involved over the weekend and then that changed things.”

Prayers and support for Charlie have been flooding in from across the world, including from Pope Francis and U.S. President Donald Trump. Hundreds of people protested the court ruling in London over the weekend, and another protest is planned for this week.

In October, Charlie entered Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and was diagnosed with a form of mitochondrial disease that causes progressive muscle weakness and brain damage. His parents discovered that 18 people in the United States have been treated with an experimental medication to remedy the rare condition. Reports have not identified the doctor who agreed to treat Charlie, but it was noted that his parents were aware that no cure was promised.

In March, however, Charlie’s doctors recommended that they remove his life support, saying there was nothing more they could do to help him. The little boy suffered brain damage from his disease and cannot breathe on his own.

But Charlie’s parents took the matter to court, and eventually appealed their case to the European Court of Human Rights. Last week, the high court ruled against them and will not permit them to seek alternative treatments for their son, according to The Guardian.

The judges said they did not think Charlie would benefit from the experimental treatment, and it could cause him greater pain and suffering.

On Monday, Charlie’s mother posted a message on Twitter saying that they have not completely given up.

“If he’s still fighting, we’re still fighting!!!” she wrote.

It’s amazing the power to the state the people are willing to surrender.

Have a feeling they never thought it would go this far. Or evil.

Amazing how people forget Hitler so fast.

Why do they need "permission" from the EU to take their child to the U.S.?

That’s the point of the left. You get to create the babies, and you keep the financial responsibility, but you lose the right to educate them, to teach them a moral code, to guide them on the path of righteousness. The state has the power to make you allow them to have abortions, to chop their sex organs off, to commit suicide (if it’s called euthanasia).

If they wanted to kill their baby they’d have the government’s full support.

The National Health System of the UK has limited resources. They must make decisions on who will live and survive relative to the available resources. That is just the way it is and is ugly ugly ugly.

However, Charlie has resources available to him that might save him although medically doubtful he can be saved. The resources are not part of the National Health System and would to cost the NHS not one damn pence. In fact if Charlie was flown to the United States tomorrow it would save the NHS money for the care of Charlie during his dying days when medical care is withdrawn. The NHS has taken away the right of Charlie’s parents and in effect are saying, “despite the fact there may be a remote chance he will live, you as the parents do not have the right to decide this. I as the all powerful will make this decision.”

This is really not about Charlie;s life. It is about asserting the power of The State over its subjects.

What we are really witnessing is The State telling us who lives or dies and who deserves to live.

In 1939 Jews become disposable assets of The State. Millions died. But there is a bit or irony. It was mostly European Jews that were the scientists of the Manhattan Project that gave us the atomic bomb. It is a damn shame that Germany had surrender and we could only drop it on Japan.

A minimalist state is necessary for a functioning society with the least input from the state to maintain order and national defense and I must add control monopolies. Monopolies are bad and have a tendency to morph into an arm of The State and are indistinguishable from The State. A maximum state is tyranny with no rights for anyone but the faceless state. However, those at the top of the maximum state have all rights as they determine what is right or wrong.

For the umpteenth time, the Queen demonstrates that there is no justification for her existence.

Abortion. Muslim invasion. The murder of Charlie. Not a peep.

This is why the gun was invented.

That’s all I gotta say. Anyone keeps you from keeping your family safe or cared for, the gun is always there to tip the scales back into balance.

Yes, they do. I believe Bobby is over there trying to help, too. If nothing more, he definitely understands the family’s suffering better than any of us.

The Queen is the moral and cultural icon of the British Republic. In this as in so many other cases her cowardice has been her singular message. Bow to the absolute authority of the state is her only claim.

I want nothing to do with Europe. It grows more evil every day.

Trump should take this up while at the G 20. He should ask what in the world is going on.

The UK Court had ruled against them wanting to take their son to the US.

They ‘appealed’ to the EU ‘Human Rights’ Court.

Beware this thing called ‘Human Rights’ courts. They exist in Canada as well and there are plans for them to be established in the US.

‘Human Rights’ are beholden to no constitution. legislature, parliament, or any elected body. They work via the UN to promote a flowery imagery of themselves and their agenda.

For some strange reason, the UK doctors in charge of treating the baby’s condition testified to the court that the baby should not be taken to NYC for the experimental treatment. Their decision was that nothing more could be done for the baby and presumably they would not sign a release. I think these doctors are controlled by protocol and requirements to explain any such release. To me, it seems easy enough for them to conclude that no standard, accepted treatment would help the baby, that the baby was terminal, and if the parents were inclined and had the means, a release would be authorized for the parents to transport the baby to NYC. Why this is not being done is a mystery. It may be an asinine ‘doctors know best’ position. It doesn’t add up.

The EU ‘Human Rights’ Court would not go against the UK Court unless there was money in it for them or political points of some kind. So their ruling is not surprising.

In general, when there is a family relative in a terminal condition, there are usually family members that scramble to find a little-known or experimental treatment. Other family members will often balk and say let the doctors decide. In the US, a doctor will often talk to another doctor and discuss the experimental treatment, and follow it up with a release. In the UK, they are all part of the NHS which is a massive bureaucracy which suppresses doctors from making their own decisions.

If I am ever found sick in a UK hospital, just kill me already.

We need names and photos of the smug leftist bureaucrats and physicians who have decided that Charlie Gard should be killed and his parents’ wishes ignored.
