J.P. Nadeau was expecting his daughter's wedding to be an electrifying day but it's safe to say it far exceeded his expectations.
As he was delivering his speech Saturday during the outdoor ceremony in Woodstock, N.B., his right hand was struck by lightning.
The father of the bride got quite a shock, but he was not injured. He told As It Happens guest host Laura Lynch about the moment he was struck:
J.P Nadeau: At 3 o'clock, the father of the groom, he got up and said something, and then it was my turn. I got the mic from him, and I said, "Adam, you are some lucky guy."
As soon as I said that, my daughter's eyes, she was looking at me, and she just, like, popped right out, because all of a sudden there was this lightning flash that hit right behind me.
The power went into the soundbooth and came back through the mic cord, and I was looking at my hand, and it lit up. My whole hand it was like I had a bolt of lightning in my hand.
I must have jumped, I'm sure I jumped, because I felt a major shock, but after that I was kind of OK.

JPN: They all were stunned as well as anyone. Because I didn't see it, they saw it. That's the great thing about getting hit by lightning ... if you got witnesses. Because a lot of times you've got nothing to say about it, right?
LL: What does it feel like to get hit by lightning?
JPN: It was a sudden shock, I gotta tell you. It just ran right through me. It was crazy.
LL: Has there been any damage?
JPN:No, no, not at all. I think my knee's working better (laughs)
I didn't feel anything, and everyone is amazed I'm alive.
LL: Do you take it as any sign from above that the lightning struck just as soon as you told your new son-in-law that he was a lucky guy?
JPN: Well, I'm usually quite spiritual about things like that. I think it's got to be all right and anyway. There's a rumour that goes around that if it rains or thunders on your wedding day, it's a good sign.
LL: Yeah, but the father of the bride getting struck usually isn't part of the equation.
JPN: Well, I guess that's sort of the exclamation mark at the end of the blessing. (laughs)

As someone who was struck by lightning in 1989, I was fortunate enough to only be slammed into a wall and knocked semi-conscious for maybe a minute, and to only have nasty burns and a numb sensation on my left arm from hand to shoulder-I was even able to drive my Suburban to the nearby doc-in-the-box to get the burns treated-I can tell you the guy in Cali was lucky beyond belief. I do not ever want to repeat that experience, either...
He should buy a lottery ticket immediately.
The headline is one of those “Rescue Squad Helps Dog Bite Victim” for the “How Not To Write A Headline” guides.
Sounds like someone explaining what bad Mexican food did to him.
Either that, or an attack by an angry ghost...
He may have just seen the cost of the wedding
