No he wasn’t. Defending the border is the very essence of a military. Standing the border is not domestic law enforcement. Besides, the Marines are not in Posse Comitatus. This is why they were used in the LA riots. This is why they were used to Guard the US mail trains in the 1920s.
Likewise with the National Guard when under the Governors control.

Agreed - now the leakers in the Communications shop get the last laugh. I know what he said was wrong, but if that was the case, he should have been instantly fired. He screwed up badly, but I would have given him a chance. Trump isn’t getting accolades for firing him by the left - they are mocking Trump and Scaramucci. Trump is only getting support from part of his base - other hard core Trump people are very disappointed.

Sounds like a story fed to a suspected leaker by someone in the know to determine if, in fact, the person leaks.
The feeder then leaks to the reporter and waits to see if the suspected leaker does as well.
Then once it has been confirmed, you don’t fire the leaker, you just make sure that leaker is never privy to anything important and keep that leaker on the job to use as an unwitting Trojan horse portal into the press.
