COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - When the total solar eclipse hits in a couple weeks, you'll need to have legit glasses to view it to protect your eyes. But what about our animals' eyes?
Dr. Wendy King of Spears Creek Veterinary Clinic says, The short answer is nothing because animals have an inherent knowledge of not looking at the sun and they just don't look up at the sun and stare. So they don't need special glasses.

Question number two: Are you retarded?
My Lab Border Collie might glance at the sun and think, big whoop.
My Jack Russel female is too busy looking for squirrels.
An article so stupid they pulled it.
Only Republicans need glasses to stare at the eclipse, Democrats and Bernie voters don’t need anything to stare at the sun during the eclipse.
Unlike some people... Just sayin'.
Pets are not stupid enough to hang around just to look at a solar eclipse
Its happening in the middle of the day, which means all my cats will be busy sleeping.
“Do your pets need special glasses for the eclipse?”
The law of headlines ending in a question mark; the answer is no.
Dog GoGGLES?
This story reminds me of an old Mad Magazine satire about the Reader’s Digest. One of the articles was entitled, “What your dog should know about sex.”
Smarter than the people who ask the question.
Question #3
I have special Eclipse glasses for pets only 175$ a pair, how many pairs do you want?
Instant riches:
Develop pet goggles. (Quickly.)
Then market on liberal web sites using lots of dire fake “scientific” claims.
The first eclipse I ever encountered was in the early 70’s? ‘70 or ‘71 maybe? Possibly earlier?
Anywhoo, the only thing I remember were adults shrieking, “Don’t look at it!!! Forgodssake, you’ll BURN YOUR RETINAS OUT!!!” So then on with the clumsy pinhole dealies that didn’t work for shite. Then “GET INSIDE! GET INSIDE!” All for 3 minutes of overcast skies. Whee.
If I ever encounter another one, I’m totally gonna stare at it till I burn my retinas out.
File this one under DUH!
Yes, I know it’s not safe to stare at the sun!
I guarantee you that there will be scores of people seeking an optometrist the next day with burnt retinas.
I wouldn't call it "inherent knowledge."
a. Looking at the sun hurts. Looking away stops the pain.
b. The glare of looking towards the sun blinds an animal to the rest of the environment. Clearly seeing the environment is important to most animals.
c. Animals have no intellectual interest in staring at the sun. It would never occur to them than an eclipse has any more meaning than a cloud passing in front of the sun which has little meaning to them.
