ast year, Lamar Jackson opened his sophomore season with three straight video-game-like performances.

In those games, the Louisville Cardinals faced UNC-Charlotte, Syracuse and Florida State. Jackson passed for 913 yards, ran for 464 more, and scored 18 touchdowns while doing the majority of that work in the first half.

The NY Daily News has degenerated into a bunch of race baiters. These are the same "racist" writers who have voted for a minority, if one includes Mariota, 6 out of the past 7 years. These are the same "racist" writers who elected Derrick Henry over the "Great White Hope" Christian McCafferty in 2015. The reason nobody is talking about Lamar is his team crashed and burned last season.

Note that the NYDN complains, “In a sport that’s dominated by black men between the ages of 18-22, can you name a top black college football writer?”

No, because the racists at the NTDN won’t hire a top black college football writer.

Based on what these simpletons are saying, you’d think no minority has ever been awarded the Heisman Trophy.

Jacksons talents, while impressive, also don’t quite translate to next level success like the rest. I realize we’re talking about just college here but sportswriters also want to jump on the bandwagon of somebody who’s going to succeed in the NFL too. Catch a rising star

Plus it’s USC. Bigtime program compared to Jacksons.

Jamarcus Russell, Cam Newton, Vince Young...those guys got PLENTY of hype.

and two years ago Christian McCaffrey was overlooked for all pre-season accolades- because he was a white running back...

that’s not the simpleton part....the writer is complaining that somehow Lamar Jackson is an attention whore for not receiving PRE-SEASON accolades...no awards are given to anyone for being named to a pre-season All America team or being ranked #1 in the polls...in fact it could be an albatross if you don’t live up to expectations...

If anyone watched and listened to Jackson’s Heisman acceptance speech last year you will know it was a complete embarrassment. He would utter a mumbling sentence and then say, This is crazy man... This went on for 2 minutes or more. Did he ever attend class. With Petrino running that program, it is doubtful.

Sounds like the less public exposure he gets off-field, the better off he will be. Why does the New York Daily News hate Jackson? Are they racist?

If he needs money, he could probably get a decent amount for that Heisman trophy on Ebay.

Seriously. And Syracuse is a joke FB program too. Wow, impressive performances against early season tomato cans and one good game against a FSU program that has clearly taken a step backwards.

When you see the race card, you know they’ve reached the end of their arguments.

I voted for Lamar over De Shaun for the Heisman trophy. After seeing De Shaun in the Alabama game, I knew I’d made a mistake. I should have voted for De Shaun for the Heisman.

Wrong. Lamar Jackson doesn’t have the skill set necessary to play in the NFL as a quarterback.

The Heismann voting should occur after all the bowl games. Never understood the rush.

"Jamarcus Russell, Cam Newton, Vince Young...those guys got PLENTY of hype"

and RGIII..... there's no problem with recognizing black quarterbacks anymore, in general.... but Lamar Jackson had a big dive late season last year, did not perform well against the top defenses he faced, and may be considered over-rated due to inflated stats.

"Truth be told, for all of Jackson's gaudy stats, he only played against three nationally ranked top 20 defenses last season (Clemson, Houston and LSU) and Louisville lost each of those games."

"This was surprising news to me. I assumed Lamar Jackson was being overlooked because half of the LSU defensive line was still piled on him after they sacked the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner eight times in the Tigers' 29-9 Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl win over Louisville last Dec. 31."
