Right now I’m most impressed by Eluvium, Stars of the Lid, Boards of Canada, Global Communication (The best, IMO) and The Album Leaf.
Even KMFDM has an ambient album. It’s really good too. Did you know that Paul McCartney has a techno album?

I’ll check out the bands you mentioned - I came at ambient through Robert Fripp and Brian Eno’s collaborations, and I certainly did not know about Sir Paul’s techno venture.
