An engineering student who was also an LGBTQ activist was shot and killed by Georgia Tech campus police on Saturday night, officials said Sunday.

The school identified the victim as Scout Schultz, 21, a fourth-year engineering student from Lilburn, Georgia, who police said was armed with a knife. Schultz, president of Georgia Tech's Pride Alliance, identified as non-binary and intersex and preferred to be referred to with they/them gender pronouns, according to the alliance's website.

At a news conference Monday, Schultz"s family's attorney said the student was experiencing a "mental breakdown" on the night on the shooting.

"What was Scout doing that day? Standing there disoriented, having a mental breakdown and was shot from 20 feet away," said the attorney, L. Chris Stewart.

“Why did you have to shoot?” Bill Schultz asked at a news conference Monday

Because Bill, THEY were stupid enough to bring a knife to a gunfight, that's why. Now THEY/THEM are dead. Stupid gameplayer wins the stupid prize.

Police officer wasn’t shooting at this one. He was shooting at another one in the gang and they stepped in front.

"Georgia Tech Student-Activist"

In the blink of an eye he went from Student-Activist to Student-inActivist.

Funny how that works.

Don’t care what this person wanted to do a minor in biomedical devices and a major in computer eng ain’t gonna lead to any new innovations

If you want your children to live tell them it is unwise to advance on police with anything in your hands

yep. Suicide by cop. More common than you'd think.

Father is likely out of his mind with grief. That, and the fact that he's likely blaming himself for his kid's problems that led up to the incident makes for good copy for all of the grief vampires in the MSM.

“They” is confused

Minions.

But "they" is a totaled out "Rambling Wreck" now.

Just more proof that sexual deviations really are dangerous mental disorders.

Hmmm... I thought I felt the gene pool deepen slightly the other day.

Here's a tip, to anyone foolish enough to follow in this poor confused sod's footsteps:

If you advance at armed police, waving a knife while yelling "shoot me!", that's probably what will happen.

They should not have killed this kid. He was attempting suicide by cop and they were to quick to obige him.

Why is the first qualifier in the leed “engineering student”? As if the most important aspect of this animated dungheap was his major, instead of the fact that he was brandishing a knife and batsh_t crazy to boot.

[They should not have killed this kid.]

The cops could have disabled the knife. Apparently he was off his meds.

Really? I’m guessing you haven’t spent much time on patrol. Most Academies train their officers on the “21 foot rule” meaning any distance less than 21 feet, deadly force is authorized. It takes roughly three seconds to cover that distance for the average person. The video is clear that the responding officers issued multiple verbal commands, and continued to back away from the subject until it was unsafe to do so. At some point, officers have not only the right, but the duty to defend themselves and the public at large. This “kid” continued to advance and brandish. Had he just stood there, maybe the ending would have been different. I grieve for the loss of life, but he chose the outcome.
