Have to believe, MLB will jump on the opportunity

Posted on 09/23/2017 2:51:32 PM PDT by A Cyrenian

With the playoffs & series coming up. I think MLB will have a marketing blitz on the nfl's stupidity.

They would be fools if they didn't.

TOPICS: Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: dodgers; majorleagues; mlb; yankees

They won’t need to waste their money marketing in San Francisco. Not only is it deep Lib Land, but the Giants are 38 games out of first.
(HA!)

There isn’t really an opportunity. Nobody is going to say “well I’m not watching the violent and powerful football anymore, so I guess I’ll watch the sedate and relaxed baseball instead. Especially given the fact that the MLB is getting less interesting as it becomes nothing but strikes and home runs with fewer and fewer balls in play.

They can market all they want, but baseball bores me as badly as golf, and that won’t change.

A bit off topic, but, I’ve never adjusted to the baseball playoffs going for an entire month. It’s become something akin to NHL or NBA playoffs. There are so many rounds of playoffs, so many TV off days in the playoffs, etc.

I’ve been a long time baseball fan, but with the playoffs going so long, it’s hard to focus on them for an entire month. It was easier back in the day, to focus just on the World Series.

Or to put another way, it’s hard to have your life revolve around all the playoff games you would like to watch for an entire month. It’s far easier to just do that for the World Series.

+1

Can barely sit long enough when I did watch the NFL, but at least something was happening other than some damn review. Base ball is like watching paint to dry. Golf at least has a precision to it.

I agree. MLB is boring as hell.

Can't remember the last time I watched a game on tv.

I do watch the college playoffs that play in Omaha. That's fun.

Okay, somebody has to post it, so I will. Here’s George Carlin’s classic baseball vs, football routine.

Baseball has far fewer black athletes than the NFL. And they have far fewer black fans. So they are more likely to be patriotic. Although their are a great deal of foreign baseball players that just stand in respect to the national anthem.

I think most foreign baseball players appreciate being here.

Screw the home grown anti american kneelers in the NFL.

The Left is going to force minority players like Aaron Judge, etc. to voice their opinions. Very soon.

It’s gonna happen.

Many MLB stadiums have large sections of empty seats. That includes weekday, weekend and night games. Some teams do have a stable following, while others have fair-weather fans.

Fair-weather fans seem to show up only when their team is winning.

One would think they would lower the ticket and concessions prices to encourage people to attend. Maybe they make enough from the TV network broadcasting that they don’t need live audiences.

Here’s a marketing suggestion mantra-

MLB: You can’t take a knee in baseball.

Player hits run into seats as announcer says Baseball.
Fades to American flag waving in wind.
Announcer: “Good For America”.

Your post reminds me of something the Padres did years ago, as a promotional event.

The prices are outdated, but bear with me. They had a $4 night at what was then Jack Murphy Stadium. It was a weeknight game against the Cincinnati Reds, as I recall.

They had a crowd of 41,000 show up for $4 night. $4 x 41,000 = $164,000 in gross ticket revenue for the game.

The next night, another weeknight game against the same team, the attendance was 13,000. The average ticket price at that time was $10. So, taking $10 x 13,000 = $130,000 in gross ticket revenue for that game.

They actually got more ticket income from lower ticket prices for that one time only promotion.

And, it stands to reason, that the bigger crowd resulted in more parking revenue, more hot dog sales, etc. etc.

We can conclude that, at that time anyway, to maximize revenue, the Padres should have cut their ticket prices. Based on this real world experience, it seemed that the tickets were over priced for the market.

And they still outdraw the 49ers.
