FULL TITLE: Heartbreak as three-year-old boy with terminal cancer dies one month after his town threw him an early Christmas because he was told he would not live to see the holidays

A three-year-old boy whose fight with cancer prompted his small southern Kansas hometown to celebrate Christmas in September died on Saturday.

Christian Risner's family announced his death on a Facebook page they established after the then-two-year-old was diagnosed with Rhabdoid kidney cancer in April 2016.

When doctors said that he had three months to live, Christian's family decided to bring Christmas to him early this year with a celebration on September 10.

I couldn’t even make it through the entire article.
Very tragic. The parents did the right thing.
Not every cancer is genetic, but many are.
Some family lines are predisposed to some manifestation of the condition.

With all the crap going on in the world, stories like this show there is good still here. We have not lost it. They have not driven it out of us.

The latest additions to our family bless our family. The hurt when a family looses a child is unimaginable ... Prayers for the family of this child. May God grant this child’s family and community comfort ...

cant even bring myself to go to the web site and watch the video....the love and the los that this family must be feeling.

don’t have kids and at this point it is doubtful I ever will but if I had a child with cancer that was going to die. I am sure I would be strong for the child but break sometime after they die.

years ago I had a neighbor who had no phone and had received notice that her teenage daughter had died. I did not know her very will but she spent the day in my home using the phone to make arrangements. I never saw a more sad or devastated women. at the time I was no more then a kid myself and really did not have a understanding of the pain. it is now 30 years later. I don’t have a kid but I can feel that pain I did not feel at 20

and I now feel the pain that the mother and father are going through as they celebrate Christmas in September.

They told a three year old he was going to die? I don’t see why it is necessary to burden a small child with that. It used to be considered that adults shouldn’t have to know that and live in blissful ignorance. Don’t agree with that but I don’t think a small, innocent child needs to know they are dying, just very ill.

I don’t know... I’ve never been in that position. However, as a parent I think I would prepare my child spiritually to leave this earth. I would speak of God, heaven, other family members waiting for him/her. I would also tell him/her that Mommy and Daddy would be there “soon” and everything would be okay. I guess I see it differently since all my kids were very young when they attended funerals with us for other family members... and I explained everything above (preparing for death/after life I see as a life preparation instead of an adult only prep).
