Woody Allen has said he is "sad" for Harvey Weinstein as the producer faces numerous allegations of sexual assault. The filmmaker said he had heard rumours but not "these horror stories" after a number of women came forward to accuse Weinstein of assault.
Weinstein was voted off the board behind the Oscars on Saturday as a result of the allegations.
Allen faced his own sex claims; accused of molesting his adopted daughter - a claim he has always strongly denied.
Weinstein has been credited with reviving Allen's career after Allen was accused of abusing Dylan Farrow, his daughter with actress Mia Farrow.
The allegation emerged in the early 1990s following Allen's separation from Farrow. The actress left Allen after discovering he was having an affair with her adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn.
But despite working with Weinstein on a number of films - including the Oscar-winning Mighty Aphrodite - Allen said he had never heard any of allegations of rape and sexual assault.
"No one ever came to me or told me horror stories with any real seriousness," Allen told the BBC. "And they wouldn't, because you are not interested in it. You are interested in making your movie. P "But you do hear a million fanciful rumours all the time. And some turn out to be true and some - many - are just stories about this actress, or that actor."
"The whole Harvey Weinstein thing is very sad for everybody involved," he added. "Tragic for the poor women that were involved, sad for Harvey that is life is so messed up.

My bad
Harvey only abused grown women. Must be a moral paragon to Woody.
Don’t you wish people would go after the corrupt punks in Washington with the same fervor they are going after Weinstein? Or Hillary F. Clinton and her multiple felonies? I’
“It’s been hilarious watching the ostentatious displays of pretend virtue by celebrities tumbling over one another to condemn one of their own. The truth is that it takes no bravery and no courage to waddle up and stick a knife into the bleeding body of a harpooned whale lying helplessly on the beach. Why now? Why didn’t all those who’ve known for years condemn Weinstein back then? Why didn’t a Paltrow or a Jolie use an Oscar speech to denounce their tormentor? What was brother Bob’s role and why? Weinstein et all are predictable products of the 1960s.”

Harvey is an effin monster. He needs to be castrated.
I'm betting that Harvey and Hillary were really, really good friends at one time. It's all about Money and Power...
Seeing Malia working for Weinstein makes me think that's what Obama had over Hillary.
There's absolutely no way she shouldn't have gotten the nomination in 2008.
The reality is that Hollywood and most of the film industry is a place of hedonistic debauchery covered in slime. Adults who live there and make it their careers know what they are doing. Their “shock” and “outrage” is simply more of the show.Their consultants long ago told them that posturing as a victim is career enhancing. They are no more shocked than a sewer worker who notices a brown stain on his pants. The really tragic stories are the children who are molested. The climate there is really toxic. It should be remembered that parents lined up and were thrilled to allow their children to go to Michael Jackson’s “ranch” to “play”. Much of California has devolved into neo pagan decadence. Celebrity and earth worship has replaced traditional religious ritual.
My guess is the most spoken phrase from all the PR consultants in Hollywood right now is, “You had better get ahead of this”.
Sad and probably a little nervous.
How do you know?
Now that you mention it, what happened with the Senator Robert Menendez case? I’m hearing next to nothing about it.
Same thing with Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Donna Brazil; two women who should have been locked up long ago.
There’s no reliable evidence that Woody abused anybody.
Serial child rapist Roman Polanski is also reported to be sad.
