Trump's DOD Nominee: It Is 'Insane' That 'a Civilian Can Go Out and Buy an AR-15'
PJ Media ^ | 11-09-2017 | Michael van der Galien

President Trump's nominee for Assistant Secretary of Defense For Health Affairs, Dr. Dean Winslow, told the Senate Committee on Armed Services on Tuesday that it is "insane" that American citizens can "go out and buy" an AR-15 rifle.

He admitted that this statement could get him "in trouble with other members of the committee," but he felt it necessary to speak out against the Second Amendment nonetheless.

Winslow gave this opinion after being asked about the Air Force's failure to report that mass killer Devin Kelley had been court-martialed for domestic abuse, which bans him from possessing a firearm. Rather than focus on the failure of a law already on the books, Winslow blamed the weapon itself.

As has been pointed out, Stephen Willeford -- the civilian hero and NRA instructor who ended the rampage -- used his AR-15 to take out Texas shooter Devin Kelley. Apparently, Dr. Winslow either isn't aware of that fact or simply chose to ignore it.

In either case, Second Amendment activists have reason to be concerned about this nominee.

It's troubling enough that Democrats are determined to get rid of the Second Amendment (without actually changing a letter of the Constitution) without unelected Republican nominees siding with them on gun control.

Easy enough to do with 3D printer technology.

Let’s see gun ban clowns try to keep cheap guns and rifles out of every one’s hands.

Its no longer as simple as putting gun manufacturers out of business.

I've owned Remington semi auto, mini 14s, mini 30, 10/22, and currently own two AR15s and one AR10.

They will all accomplish the exact same chore.

If they take the ARs, they must, of necessity, take the rest.

Dr. Dean Winslow,

Gun Control massacres children.
Gun Control kills.
Gun Control murders innocents.

Each single Democrat gun control law murders an innocent.

Democrat Law murders innocent children.
Repeal gun control. Save a child.

Dr. Dean, you support the murder of children. Why?

Dr. Dean Winslow’s ethics apparently are its insane for Americans to buy an AR-15 rifle to defend themselves, their families and their property but he’s cool with a mass murderer using an AR-15 to shoot up a church. Which act I didn’t hear him condemn.

No way on earth I would want this guy to be my doctor - I wouldn’t trust him with my life since he evidently thinks something is wrong with me if I defend mine. A doctor shouldn’t be advancing a political opinion on the 2nd Amendment that would make it harder for Americans to defend themselves and he’ll only pry our guns out of our cold, dead hands.

It is, and the AR is the perfect design for it.

Ot’s Comforting that the people who may be charged with protecting US citizens doesn’t believe that citizens should be able to protect themselves. /s

And honestly, wouldn’t it be desired to have recruits to have experience with this type of firearm?

Would he want to put restrictions on soldiers oveseas regarding rules of engagement?

Maybe Jivanka. I thought it was a horrible idea to give them residence and offices and staff in the white house. I could do a better job by myself. And, I’m not a liberal.

Speaking out against the founding document. Wonderful.

A little over-qualified for the swamp.

So the nitwit blames the gun instead of the failure of the Air Force to do basic data entry. For the last 20 years, at least.

He is saying, in affect, that it is “insane” that a civilian can purchase a .223 caliber semi-automatic weapon. He is saying, in affect, that it is insane that a citizen can purchase a semi-automatic weapon in any caliber.

Is he saying he can’t uphold the Constitution as written? That he’ll be lying when he takes his oath of office?
