WEEKLY GARDEN THREAD NOVEMBER 10, 2017
freerepublic | November 10, 2017 | greeneyes

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.

From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.

This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Are you allowed to collect rainwater from the roof there? We get a huge amount to store that way and use it for the garden.

It’s a great idea. How do you keep it from getting mosquitos? We have West Nile Virus here.

Lids and mosquito dunks. The dunks are not harmful to pets or humans, but prevent mosquitos.

I also avoid going out at dusk, when the skeeters would be out, and always wear light weight long sleeves. If out at night we use the anti skeeters candles, but that’s just a precaution, since one never knows what the neighbors or vacant lots may be breeding.

There are also plants that deter them from around an area, including basil. So I plant that around the patio.

You are very welcome. I think it is so much healthier to grow ones own food, even though there are challenges. LOL
