Capable of going from 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds, the Tesla Roadster would be the first such car ever to break the two second mark, the entrepreneur said at a launch near Los Angeles.

He also said it would climb from 0 to 100 mph in 4.2 seconds and clear a quarter mile in 8.9 seconds. "This will the first time that any production car has broken 9 seconds in the quarter mile,"

Its top speed was not revealed, but he hinted it was "above 250mph".

Fun stuff. That said, as the battery discharges it creates heat, as the temperature rises, the computer limits output; to prevent battery damage.

Therefore max output is limited to short bursts, like 0-60.

And in other news, the Stanley Steamer is coming back with a 6 passenger minivan that gets 200 miles on a gallon of water!

I am amazed how many are impressed with the idea of coal burning cars...

“The point of doing this is to give a hardcore smackdown to gasoline cars,” he said.

Well you missed!
Give me Shelby GT
Early model Corvette /427
Pretty much any of the original muscle cars.
You can keep your 200,000 dollar electric sled!

Reminds me of the Bugatti Veyron. It can go about 230mph... for about 6 miles.

He also said it would climb from 0 to 100 mph in 4.2 seconds

And on the 405 freeway, you'll still be in bumper-to-bumper traffic going 5 mph for 2 hours.

Aren’t high performance cars kind of anti-LIB attitudes? Maybe there is a bye given because they are being built by a LIB charleton supported by taxpayer money???

My snap prediction is that this Super Roadster is a more likely product than the million-mile-guarantee Class 8 BEV semi.

I will race Musk’s supercar any day of the week in my Jeep Rubicon. Musk can pick the day and time, and I’ll pick the trail, er road.

I have a question. Why do we need street legal cars that go over 250mph ?

Kind of like being a Democrat groper - you're given a pass, because it's an electric vehicle. Just don't tell them you need to burn fossil fuels to get the electricity.

Maybe there is a bye given because they are being built by a LIB charleton supported by taxpayer money???

Yeah, take away the gov't subsidies & Tesla sales will drop. They are already hugely in debt & I heard today that the Model 3 was way behind schedule. This car isn't scheduled until 2020, but I'm sure Musk wants you to make a down payment today to get on his list of suckers.

It's downright spooky how stupid the Left is. They honestly do not understand that while cars are a luxury, limited to the wealthy, in Eurostan, they are a requirement, here in the Land of the Semi-Free.

Point A: has anyone priced a set of "99Y" speed rated tires? Figure about $1500+, each.

Point B: How many amps would it take to enable ALL the cars you see on the road, this morning, to recharge, overnight?

Point C: You put the spurs to it, and the rear end is going to break away. Saw it the other day when a pickup swapped ends trying to get on the interstate, and she shortened the wheelbase by about of foot when the tires caught and she stuck it into the barrier...

That would be an incredible tow truck hauling it to the junk yard.
