40 years doesn’t seem like enough.
Hay, it was a backward abortion, usually the baby dies and the mother lives. She just did it wrong.
I think the sentence is too long. Her immediate execution seems more appropriate.
This is rare, but not unheard of by a long shot. I wonder what sets this off? Shes crazy and wants the baby? I guess it could be that simple.

Yes, it seemed to me that there is a new case in the news about every six months, but Wikipedia claims that there were only 18 cases of "fetal abduction" in the US between 1983 and 2015. The one in this article was in 2015, but there has been another one in North Dakota this year.
I noticed a book by an FBI profiler that included a chapter on this type of crime. In a lot of the cases a woman is infertile, but feigns pregnancy to hold on to a man, then has to deliver the goods. But I'm not sure that motivation covers all the cases.
