The earth has a magnetosphere. It is because of basically a generator being formed by the molten iron core and the layers above rotating at slightly different rates...
Ever taken the Hoover Dam tour? What did you hear in the generator room? My Occam’s Razor explanation.
I live on the eastern shore of Maryland...used to hear a mysterious hum all the time...now just occasionally.
The noise is not weird. Humans apply the adjective “weird” to a natural phenomenon in an attempt to get people to read stupid articles.

Had no clue what it was...still wondering. We’re not far from Dover Air Force base and I assumeed it originated from there...thatand the dozens of “sky guys” around here every night. Don’t know what those are, either.
