McCarthyism; History Repeats Itself
Vanity | Vanity

Posted on 12/14/2017 1:28:19 AM PST by tired&retired

What will be the new name for false sexual allegations? What is happening now reminds me of McCarthyism.

Per Wiki, McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of subversion or treason without proper regard for evidence.

The term refers to U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy and has its origins in the period in the United States known as the Second Red Scare, lasting roughly from 1947 to 1956 and characterized by heightened political repression as well as a campaign spreading fear of Communist influence on American institutions and of espionage by Soviet agents.

McCarthyism has taken on a broader meaning, describing the excesses of similar efforts. The term is also now used more generally to describe reckless, unsubstantiated accusations, as well as demagogic attacks on the character or patriotism of political adversaries.

During the McCarthy era, hundreds of Americans were accused of being communists or communist sympathizers and became the subject of aggressive investigations and questioning before government or private-industry panels, committees and agencies

Keep thinking of this in light of the current environment.

Are some of these men being Nifonged?

Reminds me of the newspaper ad where many of the faculty assumed the lacrosse players were guilty.

I posted this for the younger generation.

In many ways, McCarthy was correct.

What is happening now is a moral panic, but is It is similar to McCarthyism in that it isn’t a bunch of false accusations. Whether you believe Moore’s accusers or not, it is obvious that Franken is guilty, Weinstein is guilty, Conyers is guilty, Simmons is guilty, Singer is guilty, Rose is guilty, etc..

Its Stalinism and Mao’s Cultural Revolution.

Stalin killed his opponents and Mao’s died, too but many in China were reassigned to menial labor during the CR period.

Our “soft totalitarianism” takes people’s jobs away if they are suspected of or implicated in sex related matters.

McCarthy was right to oppose Communism and be concerned about its presence in places like the State Dept.

Ironically my mother worked at the State Department when McCarthy spoke of Communists working there. She wasn’t one of them but I’m certain real ones were there.

I prefer to compare the current activities to Soviet or Nazi ones than Senator McCarthy.

Could be, but when you convict people without due process you end with people like Moore borked. I was looking at the turn out numbers and it female conservatives who didn’t vote for Moore that made the difference. I was surprised by this, but women do love to virture signal.

It’s time we demand due process with testimony under oath before we accept anything. These witch trails are getting out of control.

The NYT article on Venona is long, but excellent..

Here is a clip..

It is doubtful that Stalin, rarely a risk-taker, would have supplied the military wherewithal and authorized North Korea to invade South Korea in 1950 had the Soviet Union not exploded an atomic bomb in 1949.

POLITICS OF PERSONAL DESTRUCTION. Page 1 of the clintoon and dumbocrap playbook. Moore opponents here don’t understand what it is or how it works.

“The Soviet Union’s unrestrained espionage against the United States from 1942 to 1945 was of the type that a nation directs at an enemy state. By the late 1940s the evidence provided by Venona of the massive size and intense hostility of Soviet intelligence operations caused both American counterintelligence professionals and high-level policy-makers to conclude that Stalin had already launched a covert attack on the United States. “

Elections are effectively a very large trial. Moore got his due process and was found guilty by the public.

Right. They also tried it against Trump with the Billy Boy Boosche tape, but it didn't work.

Frankly, it sickens me how ignorant/stupid FReepers are sometimes. Then I remember: they're here to learn.

I predict that between now and NOV 2018 every Republican candidate seeking election to public office, from dog-catcher on up, will be accused of sexual misconduct.

Accused of creating a bogus Red Scare and smearing countless innocent victims in a five-year reign of terror, Senator Joseph McCarthy is universally remembered as a demagogue, a bully, and a liar. History has judged him such a loathsome figure that even today, a half century after his death, his name remains synonymous with witch hunts.

But that conventional image is all wrong, as veteran journalist and author M. Stanton Evans reveals in this groundbreaking book. The long-awaited Blacklisted by History, based on six years of intensive research, dismantles the myths surrounding Joe McCarthy and his campaign to unmask Communists, Soviet agents, and flagrant loyalty risks working within the U.S. government. Evans’s revelations completely overturn our understanding of McCarthy, McCarthyism, and the Cold War.
