Foxs A Christmas Story Live! just got blindsided by NBCs Sunday Night Football in early TV ratings. Oh, and every other broadcast TV show beat it as well.
Why mess up the original?
Didn’t they do a Grease Live also? It sucked too.
I started to watch it but turned the channel as soon as Ralfie started singing...
“Why mess up the original?”
Especially when the original ONLY became big after it wasn’t making money.
But...but... I thought "the boycott is working" and "nobody is watching the NFL". Shouldn't people be switching to A Christmas Story Live en masse if everyone is "boycotting" professional football, as numerous FReepers insist is happening?
Hmmm.
I guess I’m in the minority, because I liked it. Personally, I cannot stand the movie. But, the live TV version was actually a bit entertaining. They flubbed up on a couple of lines, but they recovered quickly. That’s the sign of a professional. Like I said, I liked it.
Did they ever show the actual BB gun in his hands?
None of the other live musicals have been good so I skipped this one. Sounds like it wasn’t well received.
I listened to a rerun of “I Was A Communist For The FBI” on youtube.
The spouse had it on in another room.
Ferris Bueller is the grown up Ralphie???????
It was all PC'd up too. The Chinese restaurant waiters sang like a choir...that was just wrong. No fa-ra-ra-ra-ra.
I bet The Sound of Music beat it in ratings.
Nver a fan of the movie. It always struck me as an attempt by libs to make a wholesome Christmas show. Still its disappointing thatan NFL game easily beat it.
Yup. And he fired it, too.
Same result as the movie.
Made as much sense as doing a re-make of “10 Commandments”
How can you improve perfection?
It can imagine someone at FOX contemplating the “I was offended” lawsuits from the Chinese community if rhey played it like the movie.
Sadly, these days they're all communists at the FBI (at least at the senior levels).
Ya, I was a victim, too. Recorded it. Other than the opening number by the blonde santa girl, I didnt voluntarily watch any of it. The first 10 minutes of caterwauling, then FF in about half hou blocks. More caterwauling, skip, skip, The End. I think The End was the best part.
Wow!!
I found that series as a podcast, and it was terrific! I didn’t know anybody else knew about it.
Turns out Sydney Greenstreet did Nero Wolfe as a radio serial. Very, very good.
Talk about underrated actors - Greenstreet was so economical.
So many original movies failed at the box office and are now considered great classics that everyone watches when they come on TV.
Not much on Christmas specials other than the old Bob Hope-USO and Charlie Brown ones.
