I have read that he did a lot of his own driving tho I doubt he did much in “Bullit”, just too dangerous.

There were/are a lot of actors who are skilled drivers. Of course Paul Newman. Also James Dean, and James Garner.
I was watching an episode of “Smallville” in which the director and producers were commenting on the show as it ran.
One of them mentioned that John Schneider was an excellent driver. The other said their stunt co-coordinator said he was one of the best drivers he ever saw.
