If they see no other way, they’ll enlist more of their Islamist ally nations to help them do so. Oh...they’ve already been doing that and with a view to take the Mediterranean coast including Israel.

Exactly and unfortunately, Putin had the full support of the Russian people in this endeavor but that was when they were still riding the high of favorable oil prices ...economic forecasts were just beginning to look bad - when, just in time, Putin annexed Crimea and fanned the flames in East Ukraine.

Now they’re paying the consequences under sanctions, deteriorating living standards, the sting of faker-than-fake “elections,” police state raids in theaters, and all kinds of new restrictions on free speech, assembly, and even Christian worship outside of state-sanctioned Orthodox Churches is facing crackdowns.
