FULL TITLE: Moment distraught mom of a seven-year-boy films her son being cuffed by police and then taken for a psychiatric evaluation after school officials say he 'punched a teacher'
A Miami mother of a seven-year-old boy expressed outrage on Saturday when she saw her son handcuffed by police after he is said to have hit his teacher and then taken to a mental institution.
Mercy Alvarez was in tears as she saw her son leave the principals office at the Coral Way K-8 Center in Miami escorted by a police officer on Thursday.
The officer handcuffed the boy after school officials said he was acting up.
The incident was reported by the Miami Herald.
Alvarez has permitted the media to show her son's face. She has also stated her desire for the media to disseminate the distressing footage of her son being led away in handcuffs.

Whatever I’d get at school was minor compared with what I’d get at home. We didn’t have to like the teachers but we damn sure had to respect them, at least when there were adults present.
When I was in 5th grade, I witnessed a “student” try to stab an elderly teacher with a pencil.
Another teacher escorted her out of the room, never to be seen again. No doubt she ended up in reform school.
If one cannot handle the aggression of a seven year old child, they should not work around children.
You need to get out more.
Search google gangsta haircut kid for some examples. The shaving/very short hair in some areas with other areas long is the give away. The kid is 7, why is he being presented that way?
I think he looks like he is proud of what he did and he expects his Mom to be proud also.
that’s true, I had the metal ruler across the knuckles of my hand, then got the belt when I got home.
It’s a haircut.
Haircuts can’t hurt you.
Hey, he didn't say he went to Catholic schools; he said he went to "cath" schools... :0)
“Where is the father?”
Ding. Ding. We have a winner.
Spell cops to my knowledge are not generally admired around here, appearing instead as rather self-righteous prigs.
Thats exactly why all but very few commenters behave as one, nor send many thank you notes to those who do.
Obviously that teacher is failing to motivate the students.
My 9th Grade History teacher had one of those paddles. But his had holes in it! Ow!
“He looks like a sociopath...”
Yes, indeed. I’m not a psychiatrist, but if looks could kill...
Now he has street cred.
I purposely wrote it that way to out ya. Have a good day
You are living in the past. I wish we could live there but it’s not true anymore.
There are many many articles about the level of violence being perpetrated against teachers often by grade school children and students with behavioral issues. These are not the 7 year olds from 1950; in many cases they are fighting and learning violence outside of school & do not have the restraints you are imagining and are skilled at dirty fighting.
good 1 I like that
People don't seem to want to think about it but Juveniles that are paroled must attend school as a condition of parole.
Teachers are not allowed to know the status of their students either unless they are murders or something just as serious.
It’s an attitude, the one you show the world. I think Mom is encouraging her son to be macho & cool, hence the haircut and the social norms that don’t work at school.
It’s a decision haircut, not an accident.
