President Donald Trump sided with his chief of staff General John Kelly in the dispute over whether his son-in-law Jared Kushner would have access to classified information. “I will let General Kelly make that decision and he’s going to do what’s right for the country,” Trump said. “And I have no doubt he will make the right decision.”
Kelly issued a memo last week announcing that he would revoke security clearances for White House officials whose full security clearance applications have been pending since June 1, 2017.
Kushner is currently working at the White House with a temporary security clearance and felt personally targeted by Kelly’s decision. If Kelly revokes Kushner’s clearance, he will not have access to some of the classified information contained in the presidential briefing.
In a statement last week, Kelly said that Kushner would have access to information important to his diplomatic information, but declined to say whether he would get full clearance.

If Mueller is investigating Kushner’s foreign business relationships, perhaps Trump sees what’s coming down the road and is beginning to put distance between himself and Kushner.

You are mixing apples and oranges. Interim or final clearance is the status of completion of a background investigation. An interim clearance is one based upon filing the BI paperwork and completion of a national agency check. A final clearance means that the background investigation has been completed and reported to the clearance adjudication authority.
The designators, Confidential, Secret or Top Secret is the level of access.
SCI is a "collateral clearance" a rider on your TS clearance which provides access to special intelligence information and is adjudicated by the intelligence agencies.

Chatter of Kelly leaving...intra-office dust ups, etc...nothing more than the MSM trying to throw a skunk in the wood pile. Remember when that twit harridan Frederica Wilson stirred up staged crap saying Kelly dissed a soldier killed in Nigeria?
Kelly held a press conference in rebuttal to Wilson’s smear job...went twenty minutes or so. Personally I really never have seen a more concise, clear and heartfelt response than the one Kelly delivered. Calling it outstanding does not do it justice. No notes, no Tell-Me-Prompter, no nothing other than what was in his brain and heart all with losing his own son in battle for spiritual backdrop.
He’s not going anywhere. He sees serving Trump as his ultimate duty watch. That’s one reason the left wants to drive him away. Add in he has clear opinions and is a non-squishy MAN.
The president is, above all, an executive, a superior executive. He hired Genl. Kelley to do a job, and gives him the authority the proper conduct of the job demands. Jared’s father’s history probably is complicating his receiving a higher level of clearance.

I agree. unless it pertains to Jared Cushners job he has no need to know. a secret needs to be in as few hands as possible. the president vice president and the speakers of the house and senate should be the only people with unrestricted access to information with the caveat that in some rare cases even the house and senate might leadership might be kept temporary in the dark but informed at a later date that info was kept from them on purpose.

I can picture it, Kelly letting Trump know his views on an issue rather forcefully and getting the response, “Hey, how about some respect here.” Next thing we hear on CNN is that Kelly is about to be fired because he doesn’t have respect for Trump.
