Since manatees swim up creeks to stay warm in the winter in the springs, and flintknappers seek stone in creeks to knap, and Indians used shark teeth as tools and ornaments and also ate manatee meat... it would be expected to find these things in FL creek beds whether or not the area was ever under water.

Another noted peat bog burial site in Florida:

Sorry, the shark teeth range from about an eighth of an inch up to six or seven inches in length. No indian could use the small ones for anything. Ray plates and turtle shells are also found in the creeks. I once found a skull bone from a spadefish, which was sent to Harvard museum.

At the same time you can find cypress stumps out in the gulf of Mexico, far from land.

Didn’t see how deep the water is. That would tell how much manmade Gorebal warm has occurred.

Thanks nickcarraway. The parents came to regret hiring that day care place in Atlantis.

The depth on the map was over 100 meters. It would multily to about 400 feet lower than it is today. With the ice that is left to melt, it could go 30 feet higher. Goodbye Miami, Keys, Naples, Tampa, etc. Even 6 more feet would be a disaster. A friend sold their property in Miami and moved to Orlando which will be above water for several hundred more years.

And my bet is that we are due for another, mile-thick ice over Chicago type cooling event, based on the previous cycles of warming and cooling.

I'm not going to start making sandwiches just yet.
The last geology history book I read recently put the recurring frequency of that sort of sea level change at a minimum of 3 million years...

I don’t know if that image link will be clickable - but it shows the previous warm periods for the last 450,000 years. 25,000 years ago there was the mile of ice over Chicago (and Seattle, etc.)

This current warm period that we are in has lasted longer that the previous ones - so just based on cycles being somewhat consistent (the chart shows that they are) - I’m guessing we are due. Just my simple-minded view of looking at it - who knows what else goes behind it all. These cycles weren’t around for millions of years prior - when the earth was just warm. So beats me why things changed - I suppose earlier there was more volcanic activity (releasing heat) as the earth was still in its growing pains or something.

So perhaps something else has changed now that will make the earth a reasonable 65 degrees average forever from now on. (Ha!)

I’ve been reading that we are in the beginning stages of a long cold period - part of a cycle that happens like clockwork every 206 years. The sun has very few sunspots - called a ‘minimum’ - though I suspect you already know. We are also at the farthest from the sun in the Milankovitch cycle. Looks like you are right. We might be heading into some very cold weather.

I’m just a 63 year old woman who has been following this stuff. Didn’t know much about any of it until recently. Very interesting. Wish I had taken more interest in college!

I paid attention to this stuff in college.

Trust me, I am sure your time was better spent.

There is no other 7,000 year old burial anywhere in the world where the archaeologists would be told to do anything other than dig and learn all they could.

Or just shut up and put in the dammed foundation...

Ahhhhh, yes. Excellent point. I sense an opportunity to start a new conspiracy theory. Do you care to join me in creating it?

...underwater archaeologists...

Do they use dolphins for that?

It would be pretty neat if we could train dolphins up to do that, but I don't suppose the animal rights people would let anyone do that.

There's a lot of fascinating archaeology waiting to be done in shallow continental waters as the technology continues to develop. 7,000 years takes us back to the end of the last ice age and the beginnings of agricultural settlements. I gather that there is still considerable debate on the subject, but some researchers believe the Black Sea basin only flooded about 7,000 years ago. There are likely to be some fascinating sites waiting for the right tools for exploration. Unless some Bulgarian or Turkish ancestor worship cult crops up and forbids us to look.

But all the current evidence is pointing to a cooling Sun. That means more ice and a receding sea level.
