Satirically dubbed 'Beer for Girls' the Pink IPA hits shelves on International Women's Day
A craft brewing company has created a pink beer for girls in an attempt to end gender inequality and break down stereotypes.
Satirically dubbed 'Beer for Girls', BrewDog - famous for their blue-labelled Punk IPA craft beer - created the Pink IPA as a way of "exposing the sexist marketing techniques used to target women, particularly within the beer industry".
Launched to coincide with International Women's Day on Thursday, March 8 , the campaign also aims to "end the discrimination of gender pay inequality".
"Inside the bottle, it is the exact same beer as Punk IPA. But on the outside, it looks different," a statement on the BrewDog website said.
"This is a reflection of the situation around the world relating to gender imbalance – Pink IPA is our effort to raise awareness of the current, unwelcome, status quo."
Indie brewery BrewDog's Punk IPA is one of their popular products BrewDog's popular Punk IPA The beers, which launch at BrewDog bars on Thursday, will also be sold with a 20% discount to people who "identify as female", while men will still have to pay full price.
The company - which has a bar in Cardiff - also says 20% of the proceeds from Punk IPA and Pink IPA sold over the next four weeks will be donated to charities that fight inequality and support women.
But not everyone is happy.
Posting the campaign to their social media pages, BrewDog have received a huge backlash, with some describing the stunt as embarrassing and offesnive.
Commenting on one of BrewDog's Facebook post, one user - Lauren Weight, wrote: "Oh dear. Nice idea in theory. Not sure if this is supposed to be ironic in some way or not. Misses the mark a bit."
While, Sophie Day wrote: "Ridiculous. Do you think it’s only men who’ve been drinking Punk all this time? Epic fail, Brewdog.
Another user, Dave Power wrote: "Why not call it "Equality IPA" or something? It could be a whole lot more effective and taken seriously, then."
And Dave Noble said: "Stunned by the crass naivety of this idea...marketing faux pas if ever there was one." He added: "If you wanted to donate 20% of revenues to a worthy cause do it off Punk IPA itself - Pink IPA"
But others were quick to defend the stunt, commending the company for tackling the issue.
Billy Simpson wrote: "Not everyone is the same on the outside, but on the inside we're the exact same. How can anyone be offended by that message?"
And Brenda Hector wrote: "Good for brewdog. That's me, punk on the inside, pink on the outside!!"
In response to the backlash, a spokeswoman for BrewDog said: "Pink IPA is quite obviously satirical. It’s a send-up of the patronising approach many companies take in their attempt to attract a female audience.
"The beer is part of a bigger campaign that raises awareness of the scourge of the gender pay gap and sexism; two issues we think we should be doing a lot more to solve as a society."
The company added: "Pink IPA is our contribution to the ongoing debate around the representation of gender diversity within the beer industry. We want to change the image of beer forever; for the better. Pink, Punk, it’s all the same. Drink whatever makes you happy."

Pink IPA can be served right along with those less crunchy chips for women.
I fail to see why anyone would make a special effort to make women happy. They are guaranteed to tell you that you did it wrong and call you names. It seems to be their nature.
Some people just have to learn this lesson the hard way.
They dont realize that women will on purpose complain and b1tch about stuff for the sole purpose of making your life harder. And the trait is inherent in women. You think you done good? They cannot wait to destroy you for fun.
Yup, shocker this is the outcome.
I love IPA. Hell will freeze over twice and Bill Clinton will tell the truth before I drink a pink IPA. The Beer Gods are not pleased with this abomination of their noble brew.
