Romanian court tells man he is not alive

In a case reminiscent of a Kafka novel, a Romanian court has ruled that a 63-year-old man is dead despite what would appear to be convincing evidence to the contrary: the man himself appearing alive and well in court.

“I am officially dead, although I’m alive,” a bemused Reliu told local media outlets. “I have no income and because I am listed dead, I can’t do anything.”

"The Castle" by K. The protagonist is so unlikeable, the book is hard to read.

He abandoned family and wife had a death certificate filed for him in 2003.

Heck of a way for a disrespected wife (or ex wife) to get even.

That happened to a guy I know when he moved from one state to another and applied for a a driver’s license. SSA had typed in the wrong line or initial or something. So he had to go to the local SSA office with his birth certificate and his license from the other state and they fixed it right then and there. He never found out what exactly had gone wrong, and it was odd that it didn’t turn off his bank account &c.

My FIL was dead for almost a year according to SSA ... it turned out the hospital had merged the files of two different guys with similar names. FIL survived and thrived but the other guy died. But we went round and round with our local offices. The problem went on until we called our Congressman. Once his staff got on the case it was solved in a couple of weeks. We were impressed.

Then he should steal something, and plead not guilty on account of prior death.

Says in the article she wanted to get married again. Doubt it was revenge. After that many years I would think he was dead too.

Hmm, sounds like a valid legal point. Of course consistency is the hobgoblin of a bureaucracy.

If a deceased Muslim were to apply to enter the U.S., would he be covered by Trump’s ban?

He may never have found out about his death in his homeland had he not been apprehended by Turkish authorities earlier this year and deported back to Romania because of expired documents.

What? How dare Turkey bounce this guy back to Romania! /s

And can’t be charged with any crime.

Arlan Spector was some kind of Scots Law expert, you are going to need a Romanian Law expert to support that statement. Arlan may be available for a case like this one.
Rumor has it that a guy named Vlad Tepes has had some success working with the dead and undead.
