It really is dumfounding that people willingly allow these things into their homes.
What could go wrong, I hear all the time how safe our data is and everything onlione is secure. I mean, when was the last time you heard of a successful hack, never happens.
Am I the only one who has no interest in a home spy like Alexa etc? They are becoming ubiquitous but I dont even see the draw.
****seriously, all it takes to prevent spying is a piece of masking tape****
What about the microphone? Do you think all the rest of us are dense? maybe it is you.
I’m with you. I have friends who let Alex*a into thier house because it did cute things like a trained dog. Turns on the living room light which is a short walk away. Sets a timer for your cookie baking. Ooo! I don’t trust the damn thing. I asked it once, “Do you sleep?” It replied, “Not really...”. Uh huh. Exactly what I thought. It’s listening 24/7. Gives me the creeps.
works on the mike also. you’d know that if you weren’t .. well .. dense.
If you trust masking tape on a microphone, well...good luck.
Especially a better quality ones. But you don't have to connect them to your network. No one can access the camera or microphone if it's not connected. For the most part, the "Smart" TV's have crappy quality interfaces and are inferior to even cheap external devices like Fire or Roku. My Panny Plasma has a built-in camera and mic, but I have no desire to use my TV for Skype or any other function involving the cam/mic.
Even Facebook creeped me out at first and I had to be dragged to use it. I hate Siri. And Alexa etc,? No thanks. Ring at the doorbell is s far as Im going.
The enemies of the state WILL profile each individual it can, and use that profile to target “undesirables”. Enormous amounts of data are already mined for other purposes; however, the day is soon coming when the rats get back in power, and use this information against its opponents to take property they do not want you to have, and rights they do not want you to have.
I taped over all my cameras, including creating dots for my phone.
Because they care... about selling your data. Nefarious uses are certainly possible, it’s not just pharmaceutical companies and home improvement stores.
