Two of Boston’s top teaching hospitals said they are expanding efforts to hire more black and Latino doctors, and to ensure their facilities are welcoming to minorities they treat — an attempt to address two longstanding issues in the health care industry.
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, one of the nation’s leading cancer centers, plans to hire a new leader for diversity programs and to require all faculty and administrative leaders to complete a bias awareness workshop, and has set diversity goals in its 2018 strategic plan.

Had the same in couple California hospitals, and some nurses were terrible. Onenurse was a schizophrenic black woman whom for some reason( all directors were black and 75% female)...worked and messed things up for six months. I felt bad for her be the rest of us could not carry her load. One day she had a bad psychotic break and I took her badge, keys and sent er to human resources accompanied with out psychiatrist. But usually being white I was minority with Hispanics, Blacks, Asians and Filipinos. Hard works but the affirmative action BS created a lot of issues, sick time and ...nevermind; it was bad sometimes.
I know when seek life saving medical care the first thing on my mind is the diversity of the medical staff.
How about just hiring the best doctors so people of all races have better chances of living?

My last 2 kids, when I would go get ice water for my wife and pass the desk areas I sensed they were harried and understaffed.
As a paying customer I should have every right to choose my care provider based on any qualifier I want. If it’s deemed OK to choose based on age or gender preference then race should be no different.
Two times when I had a blood draw the tourniquet was too tight with resulting blood spatter and bit of bruising afterwards. Both times the nurses happened to be black. So now I don’t feel as comfortable with them.
The last time I was in the hospital for surgery, I had the most wonderful nurse, and she happened to be black. She truly loved her job. I will never forget her helping me, when she could have requested and waited for a CNA. She was an RN and she changed the sheets on my bed. Anyone who works in a hospital knows that is a big deal. I will say the only bad experience I had was with a male orderly who appeared to have a major chip on his shoulder.
We should ask a virulent racist like Obama or Holder whether they would prefer the best cancer hospital, or the most diverse cancer hospital.
I am beyond sick of this crap.
The injuries were gruesome but I still tried working with hairline vertebral cracks, herniated disc( drained it ant cortisone tx) and all the neck, back and other head injuries. One guys leg was kicked so much he almost lost it from internal infection and then gangrene. Other was in a coma and had to drain fluid from his brain with hydrocephalus and other injuries. for three months but healed nicely...race riots. and Racial staff all the way to Sacraments slamming us
I really miss nursing but I can no longer fulfill nursing duties. Maybe someday I'll get to wrok again

Hiring based on competence is racist.
I too work at a MA hospital, on the other end of the state.
There are many days when I am the only white, English speaking, heterosexual man in the room.
And, outside of the clinical area (where our results are above the norm) I am shocked at what horrible managers these folks are.

If you can find one...If you have been in the hospital lately, you have the feeling they are becoming extinct...
