The United States might not be participating in the World Cup, but it pulled off a historic victory in Russia all the same: The globe's biggest sporting event is returning to the U.S.

In a long-anticipated vote on Wednesday, the joint bid of the U.S., Mexico and Canada defeated Morocco, its only challenger, as 200 national soccer federations cast their ballots to cap FIFA's annual Congress.

But but I was told Trump threatened the chances of North America hosting the World Cup. The funny thing is Obama lost the bid to host the 2022 Cup to Qatar.

Maybe. I, and my two boys, love it. It may not have originated in America but it’s a great game. We follow the English Premiere League. We stopped following the NFL thugs and the NBA leftists.
This being in North America is a win.

I’ll be mildly surprised if this comes to pass.

The World Cup. There is no way that this is not going to become a political football, no pun intended, between the leaders of Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. over the next six years.

Still haven’t the slightest idea what you’re talking about.

How exactly will it be a “political football”?

Bear in mind huge sports tournaments have already be held in multiple countries simultaneously in the past.

How exactly will it be a “political football”?

Given the...frosty relationship between Trump, Trudeau, and whoever wins the Mexico presidency how can it wind up being otherwise?

In 2026 none of those you mentioned will be in office.

And even if they were, your comment is still ridiculous. Now, some facts please, what EXACTLY is going to stop this from happening?

Keeping in mind that just about every major sport in North America already holds events in at least 2 if not all 3 of the countries in question, right?

it must hurt ESPN that Trump won again!

28 February: ESPN: United States-led 2026 World Cup bid in jeopardy to Morocco’s - sources
by Sam Borden, ESPN Senior Writer
Support for the United States-led bid to host the 2026 World Cup is more divided than most predicted, with some estimates of voting totals having Morocco not just threatening the North American bid but actually beating it, multiple high-ranking football executives within FIFA and the continental confederations told ESPN this week...

The trickier question for the North American bid is actually something remarkably basic: At this particular moment in time, does the world want to give something nice to the United States?...
More recently, however, the North American bid has had to counter an anti-American sentiment that stems largely from actions taken by President Donald Trump’s administration, multiple sources said. Those actions include a travel ban affecting mostly Arab countries, public comments that perpetuate stereotypes and the reported use of profanity in describing poorer countries.

When North American bid officials visit with federation officials in a foreign country, they rarely get questions about stadiums or hotels, according to sources; rather, they have been quizzed about whether the United States can be considered a friendly place for foreigners...

I think I'll pass. But I'm sure ESPN and other liberal media will be salivating over this news. And contrary to the ESPN cover, America is not in the World Cup this year and Mexico doesn't count. So please, stop stuffing it down my throat.

Never understood why folks think it’s a commie sport.
And nobody can give me a straight answer either when I ask.

Just gibberish and babble about it being “foreign”.
