It was a good first step. But there is no deal, nothing has been finalized, and North Korea hasn’t started denuclearization. There is a lot of work to be done and a lot of pressure yet to be applied. This could go down as one of the most momentous times in our history, only the second time a country has given up nuclear weapons. But we’re not there yet, and crowing about a win and claiming victory too early is not going to help accomplish it.

there’s a bit of truth to that, namely, Trump has put his entire self on the line on this issue, and he risks a huge loss of face if the deal blows up ... Trump is a powerful, fearless leader like no other, and is willing to take risks like none of the others before him since Ronald Reagan, who’ve all been little more than feckless cowards ...
Oh most of these comments are over the top. I strongly disagree with Shapiro in some areas but mostly strongly agree. Bottom line, he’s out there going to college campuses and debating the devil while most of ya’ll sit on your asses.
I strongly disagree with Shapiro over much of his analysis of Trump.
Trump just met directly with the leader of NK. That alone is huge. Previous presidents other than Reagan just dithered or enabled.
My largest frustration is how far evil our culture has gone.
I wish Trump would speak more about morality, it’s just not a battle to fight right now so much as to bring things to the point where it can be so in the future.

If peace really does come through President Trump’s efforts here… Does it mean that Ben Shapiro is wrong on all accounts? That he is shortsighted and not understanding President trumps “art of the deal“…?
Or is Ben Shapiro’s Attitude and take on the summit simply the current neo-con prevailing thought?

Shapiro is the self-appointed GOPe hall monitor. He’ll let you know when you’ve moved too close to President Trump or stepped outside the “proper” bound of genteel Republican discourse.
He’s also good at debating kids.
Because 65 years of neo-con style diplomacy has made it so much better in the Koreas.
I like Shapiro as well as Levin, I don’t think anybody has to be %100 agreeable all the time to be in my like column.
Shapiro is fighting and that is good.

A lot of people just really don’t like people that disagree with them on certain issues. I kinda see all of us as “disobedient children on the playground”.
We live in a hyper information overload world where something has to be said immediately to the social media and punditry. NOBODY freaking knows what WILL happen. I do know that the left and GOP idiots may just scare Kim from his “high” with Trump and go back into his paranoid nuclear despot shell.
I can see no basis for it being a debacle even if NK later backs out.
I don’t see it becoming a horrible debacle, North Korea itself is a horrible debacle so if it stays the way it is now, just a waste of time perhaps? If there is any gain from this meeting, it will improve the regional security situation and even a small change would be a win for Trump.
Bottom line is, nobody expects miracles here, but the only thing that would really improve the situation would be unification under the South Korean form of government on the German model. That might be pretty risky for South Korea but it would bring North Koreans into the modern world (only their elites currently have much of a life now) and China would lose nothing really since South Korea has been a placid neighbour ever since the Korean War ended.

I have no idea where the neocon community is on the opening with North Korea and did not know nor currently think Ben Shapiro is a neocon. Someone calling him one just because he has concerns on this issue does not make him one.
I think that sooooo many people miss that many questions are not centrally about Trump, but about North Korea and the baggage it brings that many believe, with history behind them, even Trump cannot overcome, no matter how much he or anyone just wishes otherwise.
It's not a panacea, it doesn't address human rights violations, it doesn't cure cancer or end global warming. It's a first step, a necessary step on the road. That's all.
And it's more than has been done in the last 20 years by any of Trump's large brain critics.

Thank you. There will be surprises, positive and negative, that come out of this. Little dorks like Shapiro, who need everything neatly wrapped up and ideologically consistent, should take a year off and read the history of the US in post-war Germany.
You couldn’t pay me to socialize with Trump, but I respect his risk appetite, the fact that he is the first president since Reagan with normal testosterone levels, and his record of accomplishment so far as president.
Let it play out. Nobody else got this far.
