'It hurt really, really bad': Dog with vicious past attacks girl in Silverton

She should be getting ready to take the stage at a national dance competition, but 11-year-old Olivia Payne can barely walk, days after she was brutally attacked by a dog with a vicious history.

The Gresham resident was visiting cousins in Silverton Saturday when the four kids went down to a nearby creek to play.

What happened next was a blur of teeth, blood and cold creek water.

“The dog just came running at us,” Olivia said. “We didn’t even see it at all.”

Olivia said the dog ran behind her and latched onto her leg.

“I was in shock, so it didn’t hurt at all when the dog was shaking (her leg), but after, it hurt really, really bad,” Olivia said.

The dog then suddenly let go and ran off, Olivia said. Her older cousin grabbed her and picked her up, and that’s when they noticed the dog’s owner nearby.

“She’s like, ‘It’s just a puncture wound,’ – that’s what she said,” Olivia said, adding that the woman told her to put her leg in the creek.

Olivia’s mother, Katy Carroll, said her daughter’s leg was torn to the bone and required 11 stitches. Carroll said her daughter may need plastic surgery and could end up with some nerve damage.

Silverton Police said the dog’s owner was nearby, but the dog was not on a leash when it lunged at the girl. Officers said they cited the woman, but allowed her to take her dog home and quarantine it herself.

Police Chief Jeff Fossholm said officers later learned from Marion County Dog Control that the dog has a history of biting people.

Dog Control said the large, mixed terrier breed bit two people in separate instances just weeks apart last year. One person suffered “significant” injuries in a park

The above is one of the stories from yesterday. This is the headline:

ALTON IL - A POLICE OFFICER PUT 2 "OUT OF CONTROL" PITS BACK IN THEIR FENCE TO WAIT FOR ANIMAL CONTROL WHO WAS AT ANOTHER PIT BULL ATTACK ON A STREET NEARBY ...ONE OF THE PITS GOT BACK OUT AND TRIED TO ATTACK THE OFFICER AND HE SHOT IT

Here is Scorched Earth, The Politics of Pit Bulls:

College Hill Ohio
Hamilton County

A concealed carry permit holder shot and killed a pit bull after the pit bull charged the man, his wife, and their dogs as they were out for a peaceful walk. The permit holder did not shoot the pit bull until after he was bitten TWICE in the leg. The pit bull owner came out of his house in response to the attack but was unable to control his own pit bull. At this point, the permit holder shot the pit bull in the head. Remarkable self-control. The permit holder required treatment at a local hospital. The SPCA cited the pit bull owner. College Hill is located just 10 miles from Cincinnati, a pit bull hell. The Cincinnati SPCA is infested with pit bulls.

Why is the pit bull owner always the last person to arrive at the scene of a pit bull attack?

Here is an article answering a recent question on whether there existed data on the effect of spay/neuter on “impulse aggressive” behavior in pit bull type dogs:

And here’s something else unpleasant to consider. Many pit bull owners are, shall we say, on the fringes of society. So I wouldn’t be surprised if some day some pit bull owner shoots the guy who has just shot his dog.

We can no longer walk our dog in our town because moron pit bull owner lets his four-year-old walk the 75 lb. dog. Yep, that dog will listen to her if we walk by. /sarc

A “mixed terrier breed,” huh? Must have been a Scotch Terrier/Yorkshire Terrier mix.

Yes. This happened within the last two weeks. The dog was a stray pit bull.
Jeremy Pierre, Fox13Memphis.com.

Two Blytheville, Arkansas, men are dead and two teens are hospitalized after a family argument over a dog.

The deadly incident happened on the 1700 block of Sales Street on Monday night.

A woman told WHBQ that the incident stemmed from a petty argument between family members. It ended with her son, 22-year-old Alonzo Sanders, getting shot.

“An argument over a dog, and a lie of someone pulling a gun on someone,” she said when describing the moments before shots were fired.

Alonzo reportedly was shot in the head.

Sims said her family has helped take care of the neighborhood dog in the past, but tempers flared when the dog began barking at others, including family members.

WHBQ’s Jeremy Pierre counted more than 20 bullet holes in the front of the family’s home. Some of the bullets shattered glass and hit other victims.

Blytheville police said two teens were also shot.
