Alan Alda served in Korea while in the Army Reserve. I believe it was in the late 1950’s.

Geez, back in the day during the draft even the liberal guys served and I’ll give credit for that.

Some went to Canada, others went to jail.

“Some went to Canada, others went to jail.”

Not during the Korea era-—which was what was mentioned in the post.

Plenty of them split to Canada for the duration of Vietnam. I think Carter eventually pardoned them.

I once knew a man much, much older then me who was born in Italy but brought to US in his infancy long before WW2. He was actually drafted by Mussolini but ignored it. Probably in the late 1960’s he wanted to visit his home country for the first time but found out he still had an outstanding Italian warrant for his arrest. Got it fixed okay.

During Alda’s junior year, he studied in Paris, acted in a play in Rome, and performed with his father on television in Amsterdam. In college, he was a member of the ROTC, and after graduation, he served for a year at Fort Benning, and then six months in the United States Army Reserve on a tour of duty in Korea.

I am surprised that the writers didn’t find a way to work the Red Skelton incident into the show..

Some went to Canada, others went to jail.

That didn't become popular until the late 60s.

If by "duration" you mean post 68, yes. Before that, not so much.

Alda served after the fighting in Korea.

The SS Draft was still in place, so liberals had little choice.
