At least 172 cats rescued from horrific conditions at a dilapidated home, which didn't have running water or electricity, are being offered up for adoption. Dozens of the felines are being cared for by St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center after the group saved the cats from a Wantage home in an effort that began last month.

Rescue teams initially expected to find around 100 cats at the home, but that total soon swelled, according to St. Hubert's Chief Operating Officer Kathleen Schatzmann, who said the group was working to remove an estimated two dozen additional cats as of Monday. The cats were treated for a range of issues, including dehydration, malnutrition, fleas and mites. They are also being spayed and neutered, and given vaccinations.

We’re gonna need a bigger litter tray.

Cats breed almost as fast as rats.

Give them food, the population explodes.

Ok it's very easy to sympathize for the cats. How about the poor old guy who was old & sickly and just couldn't cope any more?

How about giving him a helping hand and some sympathy here?

Sounds like a mix of domesticated and semi-feral.

Most sensible thing would be to just euthanize them. There is no shortage of cats, and no pent up demand for them.

In a better world without misplaced sentimentality and anthropomorphized cat images appearing on calendars, post-it notes and in cartoons, a savvy businessman would start a business marketing surplus cats to the Chinese.

That’s kind of me. I’d adopt a couple, but I’m about to be thrown out of my ‘no pets’ apartment with advanced heart disease. Nowhere to go but the street. That said, I have a soft spot for kitties, especially when they’re in need.

Love me some kitties.

Yeah, well I love animals, but there just aren't enough homes for all the surplus animals. It boils down to irresponsible owners. I have a couple dogs and a barn tom cat. The dogs have been spayed. It is cruel to let animals breed uncontrollably.

As far as a business proposition, I think the Chinese would be a ready market for gourmet cat fillets, tastefully packaged Harry and David style.

Think Omaha Steaks, only it's cats.
